Well sure, but couldn’t they have found someone who had nothing to do with the Fast and Furious franchise?
It’s obvious you’ve never seen any of those films. They’re not what you assume (or even what they used to be). They know exactly what they are and Lin does a pretty awesome job at making them as fun as possible.
Lin’s Trek is no more a big dumb action movie than JJ’s (if anything less so). I sort of miss JJ’s super stylized take but I couldn’t complain much about Lin’s even handed direction. My main problem with the film is that it feels somewhat inconsequential which of course is a lot due to the director but it seems strange to me to hate the film because of him. It’s still a lot of fun.
