What is this mystery print?!

It’s not a print… It’s called a DCP. They usually do not show prints anymore unfortunately.

I realize that.

Supposedly Verta is expecting an executive response by the end of August.

A local theatre nearby issues this statement about their STAR WARS TRILOGY screenings – very close to the actual event itself. Hadn’t realized until today.

Lucas Film Ltd. has pulled all scheduled national theatrical screenings of the films of the original Star Wars trilogy, including those slated for August 5-7 at the Carolina Theatre of Durham. As a result, those films will not be screening in theaters this summer.

If this is true, how are the ALAMO screenings going on?

The only two possible explanations I can think of for this would be (a) a recent decision concerning the future of the films’ distribution (I.e., a new master/OUT), or (b) a feud between Disney/Fox, which on second thought seems altogether petty and unlikely.

I doubt it’s a feud. Most of those feuds revolve around making and releasing new movies, not distributing 40-year-old movies. I think Verta was talking about scheduling a meeting by the way.

The MGM musical Annie Get Your Gun went unseen for almost 30 years because of a dispute between the studio and Irving Berlin. Legal pissing contests are nothing new in Hollywood.

And Fox is sitting on some Marvel characters Disney would love to get the film rights to.

Indeed. Kevin McClory famously held out to his share of the rights for Thunderball until he died, after which his heirs sold their stake to EON and the Broccolis.

As for Fox et al, Disney’s current strategy seems to be siege warfare: i.e., making non-Disney Marvel film franchises unviable by actively destroying their comic-book counterparts.

Last I heard, the Fantastic Four were still in the realm of “cannot be published”. After all, that might lead to a company other than Disney making money at the box office.

People are also arguing that Marvel is deliberately choking off several Fox properties in their comics.

The FF book may be in limbo, but IIRC, the characters are still appearing in other titles.

If the original trilogy gets barred because of Marvel then that’ll seal my hatred of them.

See what I mean? The Blu-Ray has this weird “blueberries and cream” complexion for everything. Those two definitely look like what I remember! It was very golden, very appealing (to me, anyway).

When compared to this shot from the Blu-ray (http://i0.wp.com/bitcast-a-sm.bitgravity.com/slashfilm/wp/wp-content/images/princess-leia-stormtroopers-high-definition-star-wars.jpg), it does look slightly different – but there could be variables with the camera that could be creating the illusion.

We can’t really go off of two noisy, low-res screenshots and judge it based on color timing.
