I noticed one or two people mention MST3K in some previous posts. I'm wondering if any of these folks would like to share their favorite episodes, characters, or "host" segments. Also, here's a link to pretty much the best info site out there for anyone interested. They have a link to a tape trading site.

My personal favs:

Characters: Torgo, the caretaker in "Manos, the Hands of Fate"

Host segment: Tom Servo's "Christmas in Space" essay...for those who know "I mean sure Santa's face would be red, it's a vacum out there. And the reindeer! Ohhh the reindeer...Donner, BOOM! Prancer, BOOM!"

Favorite Episode:

Tough one...have to cheese out here and give multiple answers: Deathstalker and the Warriors from Hell, Warrior of the Lost World ("Make it slooooww Mega-Weapon"), and The Undead.

Unfortunally I have not seen many episodes, only about 6 or 7 so far, the shorts, and the movie. My favorite episode, of course, is "Manos - The Hands of Fate".

Manos is definitely a classic. Too bad you didn't get to see many. Basically what happened was this: The show began on public access in Minnesota around 1989-90. It got pretty popular and the creators/hosts were fairly well known comedians in the midwest so they were picked up by Comedy Central. Around 96 Comedy Central dropped them after a protracted game of "jerk the fans around". The Scifi channel picked it up starting in season 8 (The best all around season, IMO) for about 35 episodes total before the new management cancelled it (these are the folks who like to classify movies like Jim Carrey's "Liar, Liar" as being science fiction). The show was killed for good in 99, but continues to live on in the hearts of those of us who were there and is still gaining new fans. It was really a neat concept and a special show, to be sure.

MST3K was classic, to be sure.

Some of my favorites are in no particular order here -

1) Warrior of the Lost World
2) Hercules Unchained
3) Alien From LA
4) Hercules Against the Moon Men

And I greatly enjoyed the MST3K theatrical feature, which took on "This Island Earth".
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

I know the story behind MST3K. I didn't get to see many episodes because the show was never broadcast here. I managed to find some episodes either on the net or on tape.

The reason that show is not broadcast here it's because it's untranslatable. How are they going to show MST3K here? Dub it? Impossible. Subtitle it? Also impossible. And MST3K makes some references most people here wouldn't understand...

I must confess that I have only seen MST3K:TM, but it was bloody funny. I'd love to see more.

I'm getting the episode featuring "Robot Monster" - I've seen this "film" before, and I'm curious about what Joel (or Mike, I don't know when this episode was aired) and the bots have to say about it.

I always prefered Mike and the 2nd crew of robots to Joel and the originals. I guess it's because I was introduec to MST3K via the movie.

I really wish they could come back and have a crack at modern movies. Imagine the hilarity with films like Anaconda, Godzilla, and Independence Day (not to mention TPM and AotC), but I suppose copyrights would prevent stuff like that. But they did get to do those summer blockbuster review specials, which was some of the best stuff they ever did.
