Wow! They did include the “SND” French dub title card! Completely different from the Laserdisc.

“English, motherf***er! Do you speak it!?”

Hello, hello, everyone.

I see everybody is working hard 😃
I did a lot myself, I did my own french despecialized version as a training for working later on “Spaceballs”. 😃

I did the opening crawl text of Star wars :
http://hpics.li/bfbd7d3
http://hpics.li/d871b16
http://hpics.li/f0dc494

The scene with Greedo
http://hpics.li/8863bcf
http://hpics.li/140ec84

The credits
http://hpics.li/5f8a2ff
http://hpics.li/6f12319
http://hpics.li/e9bd660
http://hpics.li/e4b35b6

And even the credits for the french voice actors
http://hpics.li/3912d5e

And a french version of the thanks for original trilogy members
http://hpics.li/6c481bd

I work from the 2.7 version of the movie with color corrected and for Greedo, I could use the uncompressed version without the sub. The audio comes froms the laserdisc.

I reworked completely the french subtitles which were poorly translated, even if I added some personnal choices as keeping Yan Solo (because of Return of the Jedi french opening), Aldorande (because of episode 1 french dubbing), Etoile Noire (because in France we make the difference Etoile noire (death star 1) and Etoile de la mort (death Star 2), but the rest is very close to the original dialogues of the movie. 😃 lot of work but good training.

Then I started to work on the Empire strikes back 2.0 :

The opening crawl:
http://hpics.li/461cf07
http://hpics.li/009f85f

The credits :
http://hpics.li/8e0bba9
http://hpics.li/e3e6d3d
http://hpics.li/ad2eb5b
http://hpics.li/0454f20

the credits for the french voice actors
http://hpics.li/8c837d0

french version of the thanks for original trilogy members
http://hpics.li/be7d3c1

The fading of the movie with the name of the director was a pain in the ass as it starts to appear before the fading is done, I had to erase it to put the french one (which start earlier), good training for the opeining of spaceballs as the space is moving while the crawling text is moving.
And now I’m currently working on Empire strikes back french subtitles which are worst than the ones from star wars. When I’m done I will work on Return of the jedi, after this training I will be ready for spaceballs I think. 😃

That’s a very good job! Is it available on something paradoxal?
Excellent you kept Yan, Aldorande etc…
Oui je suis un fan Français!

All that looks very nice Yotsuba, good job !
I didn’t have much time to work on the french trilogy for the moment.
And I must admit that I loose much motivation because the scan of my 16mm reels failed 😦

So yeah? Did You lose all the files in the “poita accident”?

“English, motherf***er! Do you speak it!?”

Thank you everyone, I didn’t post it anywhere for download yet (the file is 24 go and I have a very very slow internet connexion), I’ll see how to post it in many parts to make it available.
For the sub, yes I kept some of french name for continuity for the 3 movies, but I let C-3PO in the sub, and of course R2-D2 because he is named like this in the empire strikes back french dubbing. I kept “Aile-X”, “troupe de choc” (but didn’t keep “troupe de la mort” because Deathtroopers exist in star wars universe and are different).

For the crawling text, I traced from the original french crawling, I kept the mistake “pourrant”, for the credits and even for Greedo’s sub I did the same, I traced from the original french ones.
To find the right fonts for the french ending of the empire strikes back was a pain because it’s rounded and I had to do the letter r and i myself because no fonts were matching exactly for them, same for the é because it was different from Satr wars and return of the Jedi, even if the worst where the é,è and à for Star wars crawling text because each accents where in different place each time it appears.

I didn’t finished yet “the empire strikes back” sub, I have 50 minutes more to verify and to correct when needed.

For return of the jedi, I have all that needed, I have the color corrected scene with Jabba’s subtitles without the subs, I have the audio from 1st laserdisc , the fonts, I need a lot of courage because the credits of this one is more longer and some logo as the MPAA and Dolby are really annoying to trace each time.

I’ll tell you for each step.
Thanks again

Marvins, it’s really sad that the scan of the reel didn’t work, I was really looking for this as I like your work very much. I hope there will be something to do. You have my support.

That’s it.
That happened after he sent me back the reels and the scan, but the HD was broken when I received it. And right after that, he had this big crash.
Bad luck, I’m so sad about that…

I was wondering: why the 24 gb size instead of the 19 gb one? Is this MKV H264 like the Harmy ones?
Oh, and will you keep “Jabba le forestier” and “Tatouine” in the ROTJ crowl?
And finally, maybe a bold question, sorry if it’s the case: do you plan on updating to the ESB 2.5 and the 3.0 versions?
And again, your job is excellent. I always watch Star Wars in french and having a despecialized version with french crawl/credits would be amazing.

Do you know that ANH despecialized is already available in full french ?

I still have the French ESB 16mm crawl and credits that were posted a while back if that would be any help. I think they were from Poita.

Edit: The files are “reel-one.avi” and “reel-three.avi”. Both are 1080p.

I want to apologize, I wasn’t precise about the size for each movie :

La guerre des étoiles - édition restaurée V 2.7
audio :
Piste française Laserdisc 2.0
Piste stéréo originale
Piste 5.1 originale
Sous-titres français revu et corrigé, bien plus fidèles et précis
Sous-titres originaux

taille : 20,6 GO

L’empire contre-attaque - édition restaurée V 2.0
audio :
Piste française Laserdisc 2.0
Piste stéréo originale
Piste 5.1 originale
Sous-titres français revu et corrigé, bien plus fidèles et précis
Sous-titres originaux

Taille : 18,3 GO

If a 2.5 or 3.0 of each movie is released, I will update them of course, the files are easy to unite for making a french release, most of time it’s only some pasting.
I already worked from 2.7 color adjusted of despecialized Star wars by Towne32, the 2.5 has the color really too yellow or red sometime.

For return of the jedi crawl, like the other ones, it will be an exact copy of it, same fonts as the original, same mistake, in the crawl text of return of the Jedi it says " des griffes de l’ignoble bandit Jabba the hutt", yes the name is in english instead of Jabba le forestier or jabb le Hutt. Tatouine will be the same as the original.

Oh sorry, I didn’t mention I watched it. I was referring to the version 2.7.

I think I have them too, but not really sure, I will check that and if I don’t find them, maybe you can put them online.

I didn’t know that poita uploaded them anywhere 😮 I’d be super pumped to have these!

Hi, well I have to rework on the end credits of the empire strikes back, with this in better quality I see that the fonts I used are not good, I will redone this, I will recreate the font, letter by letter to be sure it will match perfectly, it will be long again, but well I want it to be the best. 😉

Yes it was awful, and cost us both a great deal of time and money.
However, the opening crawl and titles, and end credits and soundtrack were saved, the rest of the print doesn’t really differ from the English versions, so the parts scanned will still be of great use for restoring a French version.

That’s right but I will try to scan them anyway because I want to preserve the reels.
Once again, thanks for your work, we had bad luck.
