Wow, the reviews for all the newer trek films are so mixed. I don’t think we can really rely on each other when it comes to them. Personally, redlettermedia’s review on Half in the Bag summed it up perfectly for me but I also disagree with their opinion of Star Trek (2009). I don’t love Into Darkness or hate it either, I think it’s the weakest of the three but it’s not bad at all. For me, Beyond and Star Trek (2009) are nearly tied.

I think the biggest issue with Beyond is how bad the reveal of what the villain (his name’s Krall right?) was all about, that scene was really lazily done. I think he worked pretty well at first but got increasingly bad which is the opposite of what most people said. Still, I let it slide because I enjoyed it quite a bit almost everywhere else.
What did you guys think of the tribute to the original cast and how Spock’s death got incorporated into the story?
SPOILERS END
All in all, I rank them like this:
- Star Trek (2009)
- Star Trek: Beyond
- Star Trek: Into Darkness
