Only allowing letters and numbers in passwords is, like, so 1990s. And sending a plaintext confirmation email that contains the actual password I created is ill-advised these days.

Yes but maybe it was Jay's original artistic vision to allow special characters and encrypted emails, and due to limitations at the time he was forced to release an unfinished product.
