It’s so silly. Palpatine ought to have looked in Sith like he did in Clones, and vice versa. That way it would be more believable that he looks the way he does in Jedi.

Indeed. Palpy looks older in AOTC than he does in ROTS. I guess the “lightning deformation” is something Lucas improvised when he wrote/shot ROTS, because he obviously had the primary idea that Palpy was just very old in ROTJ.

Maybe that “Benjamin-Buttoning” from AOTC to ROTS is another Sith Power 😉

Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

Maybe Windu is Snoke?

Dude. Could you imagine?

He did say he was there for the whole Empire thing from the beginning… I think Frank is onto something.

Maybe for the next Special Edition, modern day Mark Hamill could reshoot his ROTJ scenes after being hit by lightning.

I sure hope every single Guinness shot is going to be replaced with McGregor for the 2025 SE.

I’ll need a Guinness shot if they do that.

If lightning hitting tehe Emperor deforms him, could that mean that Vader was still looking like Hayden throughout the OT? And his unmasked appearance is a result of getting hit by Palpatine’s lightning? So when Vader decided to thrown him down, he became a Jedi again while still looking young, that’s why Force ghost Hayden makes perfect sense. George, you brilliant writer mastermind.

Except for that scene where you see him putting his helmet on. They could always CG that later tho.

Yeah, that of course needs to be replaced in a future SE, to restore George’s original vision.

Palpatine is hit by lightning that is reflected back by Mace’s saber. I think that might have something to do with it rather than something inherant to the lightning. Also, other than Ian being not a thin in the PT as he was in ROTJ, the ROTS makeup is pretty close to the ROTJ makeup, just done differently. It is just very hard to see anything other than his face in ROTJ, but there are occasional glimpses under the hood, enough to be sure the freaky forehead is there in ROTJ.

The make-up being not exactly the same is not really an issue (I know most fans despise this make-up but I don’t) since there is a 24 years gap between ROTS and ROTJ. The photography is not the same as well (in ROTS he’s in plain light half of the time). Only his “new” appearance in TESB is a problem (it’s only two shots, not the worst SE change to date).

The reflected lightning seems to be the key. Anakin gets hit by Dooku’s sparks in AOTC and if anything looks more pretty afterwards… Anakin is the girl one right?

Yeah good point.

Maybe it hurts more when a Sith gets hit with his own lightning? Will never know since Yoda didn’t knock Dooku’s lightning back into him.

You’re all thinking too hard. By which I mean you’re trying to impose logic on GL’s prequel thought process. By which I mean you’re attributing a thought process to the making of the prequels.

There has to be more to it than getting hit by lightning because the “scars” are symmetrical and Maul and Vader also have yellow eyes.

Yoda got hit by lightning and instantly became a puppet again.

However, in the Plagueis novel, Plagueis tells Sidious that you can become more powerful through an ancient Sith ritual that involves getting hit by Force Lightning, but will be deformed in the process.

Now that’s a stupid explanation.

Palpatine would have been in trouble if he ever had to take the stairs! 😉

Lucky for him, every force user is an acrobat regardless of age, so he can just jump to the top instead of using stairs.

According to the official databank, the deformation is purely because of lightning melting his face in the current canon, not an ulterior method. http://www.starwars.com/databank/palpatine-biography-gallery (The image with Palpatine’s “Unlimited Power” face has the caption you’re looking for)

That leaves the method by which Luke didn’t get deformed a mystery, but for that:

Huh, I got the impression it was. Might be just be some misconceptions from where I’ve been listening around.
