thanks. I need that.
…hmm… Im on the 'spleen and on fanedit.org snooping around for a fanedit. very off-topic.
If you remove the crossguards, the final duel is fucked, because Kylo uses them throughout the fight on offensive
and for suggestions, always use the gate weave cliché every faneditor uses. And if you want to make scenes even more authentic, try adding white boxes over moving objects, and GOUT looking spacecraft, and for far-away-but-you-can-see-a-human-walking scenes, I suggest making them look animated (from ROTJ) or use a stop-motion effect (ESB and subtly in ANH), also make sure the blue blobs that edges out the people, cut the crossguard, if you want to, and make it very thick with the cores being bigger and smaller in scenes, and keep the cyan-ANH colored sabers. those are a bunchful of items you need to recreate to make a good and authentic fanedit, also decrease the old character’s ageing, including Ackbar.
and even more authenticity, make the colors be more similar of a technicolor print. add some print flickering, the crawl will have some distortion due to the film’s age, the duel will have animated matte-snow, and the backgrounds for people either be a matte, or a distorted perspective similar to ANH’s cell bay door, give some bit of character’s continuity mistakes, only visually. the Han Dies scene needs to have a matte line on the bridge, with an animated Han Solo falling, similar to ESB (if you look closely enough) holograms will have a very sliced edge, blasters will be on continuity of the OT, some non-sensical blurring on the top and bottom edge to give it that “I recorded this with a paravision with bad 35mms.” feel. Less len’s flare, characters shadows will have a blueish tint to signify it has been recorded with a blue screen, even more flickering, The iconic shot of Rey’s landspeeder passing by the destroyed Star Destroyer will have a painting-like matte, moving characters will be slightly translucent due to the effects at the time, even more gate weaving on character’s Greedo-like subtitles, my keyboard and my hand are breaking from writing this, however, this is what it takes if you want to make it as close as to how the OT would look like.
this is a big suggestion comment.
its like the Revisited and DeEd all over again!
I have a short little clip of the crawl here for ya, let me know if I nailed the OT look or not:
There’s no sound because I had trouble rendering it, but otherwise the visuals are complete!
“Someone crack open a blast door!”
For some notes, I think you have to try using the post-ROTJ “A long time ago in a galaxy far,far away…” From ROTJ DeEd 2.5
The crawl reminds me of the GOUT and its horrible aliasing. I suggest trying to make matte lines outlining the text and try to make the crawl shake vertically.
EDIT: And I think you nailed the laserdisc version of the OT.

I did use the “A long time ago…” From DeEd 2.5. Thanks for the input, I do hate the aliasing and will fix it. 😃

It looks to me like your video has both the LFL logo and “A long time ago…” from SW 2.5, rather than ROTJ 2.5, but I could be mistaken.
BTW, this project looks like it’s gonna be awesome! (been following the thread since you started it 😄)

SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.
Any progress?
For more authenticity, you should use the same “Episode Title” font from ROTJ and the prequels since those movies use different fonts than ANH, ESB and TFA.

If he’s making a classic edition, he should use the ESB font.

Things have been going slow because I’ve stopped to analyze the original trilogy. So far, it’s given me tons of ideas of what to do for certain shots. Progress should continue soon though. 😉 Maybe even a new clip.

Its 10PM here, Im very sleepy, however, I have stayed up to make some mock-ups of TFA-1986 fanedit.
Cyan-ANH (based off the TN1 version saber) lightsaber:
Next, is escaping the Starkiller base, (its just a mockup)
Kylo’s saber 1977-vaderfied: (based on DeEd 2.7)
Han falling replaced with an animated version (based of ROTJ 2.0 workprint, on the sailbarge scene):
And… When the Falcon escaped StarKiller Base: composited from ESB 2.0 (when the falcon escapes Bespin, added noise and obvious matte line.)
this are some ideas you might like (also not the double-this post is edited.)

Sorry mate, can’t see them.
“Someone crack open a blast door!”
But you get the idea that portrays a very 80s feel. Its a super rough mockup.
The Falcon has a new radar(?) dish in TFA though, because it lost the original one during ROTJ remember?
I don’t see any dish. Only the fancy ones in restaurants.
If you can’t see the image, click on it.
Guys, there is amazing website called imgur.com. You can, like, upload images to it and then link them to other websites without them turning into a “No Entry” signs. I know, that’s amazing right?

No need to be a sarcastic ass about it

Yeah, but seriously, this thread has become Highway Code central. I really don’t mind what happens, as long as I can see something.
Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
Don’t forget your trying to make this look like it’s from ‘86, if you use too much stuff from the OT people will start to notice. For TIE/X-Wing explosions, don’t be afraid to steal special effects from other movies/TV shows from the 80s. If you can, see if you can get ahold of model kits for the Falcon, X-Wing and TIE then modify them to fit their TFA likeness’ and use them to replace the CG ships.
