Right. What you’re describing is exactly the benefit of what we call GOUT sync. However, I would say you do not need to trim the video (in fact, please don’t. Harmy and I put it there for a reason). Even in our releases none of the audio covers that 30 seconds and the tracks all have varying lengths, especially the commentary I believe. Vlc will show wonky run times if you fast forward to the last 30 seconds, but otherwise it’s not a problem.

If you do decide you want to trim the credits. I believe I can safely speak for harmy (and certainly myself 😛) when I say please just keep it for yourself instead of complicating things by distributing the unnecessarily altered version. 😃

Exactly! I muxed the 6 chan audio from 2.7 into my final copy of SSE 1.6 (minus the 81’ Crawl) and
it’s just fine! There would be NO reason to alter the video of 2.7 at all! After all I’m just
using the sound track. Good point Towne about the audio tracks being all different lengths already.

I thought I recognized your foul stench when I entered this forum!

I was a bit sleepy when I wrote that response. I guess I just assumed I was talking to someone who wanted to get the unique SSE audio tracks running with the 2.7 video, because that’s kind of something that makes sense. And my point was just that imperfectly matched run times of video and audio streams are fine, so no need to mess with 2.7’s video.

But it was indeed about using 2.7’s audio with SSE, which is of course more fitting with this thread but a more confusing idea. In that case, trimming the video is unnecessary for the reason I already mentioned, and the fact that you’re not interested in the video anyway. But you also wouldn’t have needed to trim the audio as it didn’t even extend to those 30 seconds.

It sounds like worked despite the extra trimming step, but it would have been fine using tsmuxer alone. I’m not sure how the trimming was done, but hopefully the audio wasn’t re-encoded or anything during the process.

I had zero problems of any kind muxing the DE audio into 1.6. I didn’t trim or alter the audio in any way and it syncs perfectly. I think it just ignores any silent audio after the runtime is up.

I love “making of” books and documentaries, so I wanted to share how I put the stars back in Star Wars, as some of you may find it useful or interesting:

http://thestarwarstrilogy.com/starwars/post/2016/07/07/Star-Wars-1981-Crawl-Restoration-Demo-part-1

Part 2 will be the pandown, which was relatively painless, part 3 will look at the Flyover, which as anyone who has attempted it will tell you is not easy at all, and part 4 will look at the Lucasfilm Ltd logo, Long Time ago title card and the Fox Logo, assuming I ever get around to editing the remaining hours of footage…

Cool. But, uh, what’s the difference between 2 and 3?

Very interesting Williarob. Looking forward to the other parts.

Hi guys, I hate to stall the thread with another request but I’m having trouble acquiring v1.6 also. I did get all of the parts off usenet but I found that too many blocks were damaged to repair it. I downloaded the 76/77 working parts of tehparadox in the hopes that the remaining part would come online soon, but am unsure when or if it will. If someone could point me in the right direction I’d be very grateful, especially if there’s an active link to the remaining part somewhere.

Thanks

Is anyone else having a problem burning the 1.6 .iso? I’m using imgburn and having no problem burning NJVCs 50gb and 25gb disc he made.

Hi guys,

I have Usenet and have done this many times over, but I must have grabbed a bad .nzb file for v1.6.

Would someone share a good link via PM?

Thank you!

EDIT: I think I got it, never mind 😃

Downloaded all of version 1.6 from tehparadox, except file 01. This is my first time posting and was wondering how to get my hands on the 1st file. I see some posting getting it through PM. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

I just downloaded 1.6. Is it supposed to look as grainy as it does? Not that I have a problem with it, but I guess I didn’t realize how “raw” the SSE would look. 😛

I guess this is just a note to anyone else trying to download. I think the DE will give you much better quality. Perhaps this is obvious to most others but I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Yes, the idea is to have a version of the film that looks like an theatrical release print, therefore no (or only very minor) noise reduction has been applied.

Wonderful work by TN1! After a bit of effort, I was able to get v1.6, and put it on a 50GB M-disc Blu-ray. Fantastic, all around. Colors much better than the previous TN1 version as well. Thanks for all the efforts, this is one to cherish.

50GB M-disc Blu-ray is a hell of an impressive archival jump to take (are you going to do something that expensive for every version bump?), I didn’t even know till right now that they’d succeeded in making double layer M-discs, much less in Blu-ray. I bet I’d need a newer M-disc burner to do double layer Blu-ray…

Edit: Jesus… they have 100GB M-Discs, too…
