They'll never know for sure if the other DC titles like Green Lantern can carry a film until they give it a chance. But what can we expect from a Hollywood that poured millions of dollars into Halle Berry's craptacular "Catwoman"?

not trying to start anything but where did that come from.

there hasnt been a superman or batman film for a while (cartoon series yes, but nothing live action, which is how i infer your film comment and the fact that the other movies you mentioned were live action). Yeah there might have been talk of a new superman and a new batman, but it wasnt till after x-men and spider-man were released that anything really happened (at least as far as i know).

and off the top of my head, as far as recent comic book movies go they had Punisher, Daredevil, Spider-Man (1+2) X-Men (1+2), Catwoman, Hellboy, Elektra, Hulk
and in the works Fantastic Four, Spider-Man 3, X-Men 3, Batman Begins, Superman

And the problem with making comic book movies is not anything specific to the fact that they are from comic books but the general hollywood tendencie to 'jump on the bandwagon'. Basically Spider-Man and X-Men do well, partly cause of their comic book following and people know the story but also cause they were good movies, they didnt totally butcher the characters/story. Then hollywood says 'oooh, comic book movies sell' so they start pumping out these movies and figure they will just catch a ride on the money train. What they dont realise is that the story also mattes Daredevil was ok, I hear people that say they like it and people that say it was terrible. But it could have been just as awsome as X-Men or Spider-Man. Elektra was a spinoff movie from Daredevil, i dont know anyone that personally saw this but i believe most people say its not as bad as they thought it would be. Same with Hulk and Catwomen could have been awsome but hte story wasnt up to par.

i wont go on with each movie, but im sure you see the point...the reason the movies sucks is because hollywood thinks that the name alone will sell and they get people with little to no knowledge of the comic to work on the screenplay and make terrible scripts and just adapt the story to the big screen terribly.

So Chaltab, thats why hollywood considered it a worthy project, because in all honesty it could have been.
and HSvsIJ theres been quite a few movies out, i dont see how you find them to not give a change of pace, plus your comments make it seem like the only comic book movies that have come out are the 4 (xmen, spiderman, superman, batman) you mentioned and their new sequals for them every year, with hellboy being some indepentent movie done by a rogue studio and it satisfied (if only briefly) your desire for 'a new pace'

why? its footage that was shot with him in it for a superman movie in the part they would use it for. If its in good shape, fits the storyline, and there's enough to cover the scenes they would end up shooting for it (without reusing parts and possibly putting a shitty voice dub over it) then i really fail to see why you have a problem with it.

only objection i could see is if they are planning on drastically altering the footage by inserting new actors and changing scenery, but that does not seem like it would be the case. so why wouldnt it work for flashbacks or as a holograph to talk to clark kent in his fortress of solitude since the article stated that supposedly Singer plans on use the same Krypton and Fortress of Solitude design as the first to movies.

being that its being done as a sequal to superman 1 & 2 i think it could work and might actually be good. the whole change of the actor playing superman is going to be a big enough change as it is that Singer keeping it in the 'same world' as the first two will help lessen that.

and they arent doing it with cgi like they did in sky captain, they are using stock footage from the filming of the first two films

I was referring more to DC comics and Warner Brothers Darth Simon.

Anyone seen that Constantine film?

ok gotcha...yeah dc hasnt put out many of their comics as movies.

I think the green lantern would be cool (as discussed above)
they could easily do flash (they had a live action tv series that was decent)
was judge dread a comic before it was a movie or was the movie spawned from the comic?

dont know how well something like wonder woman or aquaman would do as a movie, but if done right they could prob do some of the batman/superman spinoffs ie, night wing, justice league (think this was discussed somewhat in this thread at one point)

like i said, they botched catwoman which could have been a good movie.

guess ill pose the quesiton to you (and anyone else that wants to answer)

what dc comics would you like to see done as movies?
and while we're at it, what marvel comics? (that they havent done yet).

mind you this is hypothetical so the possibility of the studio killing the story isnt an issue. i figure after we get some ideas out we could discuss which ones we think hollywood can pull of.

This is just my opinion, but I don't think Catwoman would be that great of a film no matter what they tried. I just don't think the character/story translate well to live-action without it being cheesy and campy, especially without a larger character to sustain the movie. Same goes with Wonder Woman and Aquaman and whathaveyou.

One character/story I think could work though is something on Bishop from the X-Men universe.

I think they should have forgone the ears entirely. If Spiderman can carry his own movie, surely the more realistic (Comic Book) Catwoman could have.

The biggest problem the movie had was that they changed her from a theif to a mutant superhero and gave her a stupid costume, story, and dialogue. Ressurected by mummified cats? What kind of bull is that?

Of the DC titles I would actually like to see Aquaman given his own film. A serious one, not a parody (as rumors have been circulating). I would also enjoy seeing films made about the Martian Manhunter, the Green Lantern and Dr. Fate. Justice League would also be nice along with Nightwing or maybe Green Arrow.

Of Marvel titles I would like to see a movie based on Marvel's "Mighty Thor" comics as well as films about Iron Man and Captain America IF done properly. Or just put them all in one movie and call it the Avengers (though it might cause confusion with the movie starring Uma Thurman and Ralph Fiennes that was based on the old TV show that came out a while back).

I saw "Constantine" earlier today and thought it okay though at times coming off as a supernatural version of the Matrix (is it me or has the Matrix franchise lost its cool factor?)

The Matrix itself still has its cool factor... It's the imitators.

Slow-Mo bullets were amazing the first time we saw them, but then ever movie and it's mother in law started imitating that, and now slow-mo bullets is just annoying because you know they're only doing it to imitate the Matrix.

Yeah, Iron Man could be cool if done properly but I think that Hollywood would just turn it into a robocop type thing.

But who should portray Iron Man, that is the question. I heard Tom Cruise was in talks to do it but he officially declared that the project won't be happening with him attached. Maybe they could ask Jim Caviezel? All he'd have to do is grow a mustache and he'd look like Tony Stark/Iron Man. The suit would probably be a bitch if they decide to actually build a suit and not CGI the damn thing.

Green Arrow would definitely make a great movie, but only if they took the story from the Grell run.

And if I am not mistaken, Dredd was a pulp novel before it was a comic before it was a movie.

Off the top of your head Sessler, who would you want to cast as Green Arrow? I know some people think Keifer Sutherland would be good in that role.

Anyone seen that Constantine film?

Yeah, it's crap. Keanu Reeves in a role that was originally inspired by Sting BEFORE he left The Police? I would've taken Jude Law or Clive Owen in the role anyday over Reeves.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Okay, how about Gerard Butler or Karl Urban as Tony Stark/Iron Man?

And don't forget about the Green Arrow casting discussion.

Heard the Green Lantern movie was going to be a comedy. That's just what I heard.

What are your opinions on Sin City coming out? And Batman Begins? They're just round the corner now.

That's an awesome choice... Except he's a little too old, IMO.

Exactly!

Have you read the Grell run of GA? They made a big deal about him being over 40(43 at the beginning of the run), he even aged each year.

Choosing a Dinah/Black Canary would be harder though.
