And you’re right I guess: the man who made Aliens, Terminator, Terminator 2, The Abyss, Titanic, Avatar knows nothing about cinema and storytelling. I’m glad TFA reputation is going down this past few weeks with the video release, more and more people are now aware that TFA is flat and adds nothing to the myth. I just hope it won’t be the case with the upcoming movies (it might be too late for Rogue One and Episode 8 but there is still hope for Episode 9 to actually tell something). This text is brillant and explains many things I’ve been takling about here: http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2016/06/28/star-wars-the-force-alluded-to

(the only thing I don’t agree with is that he thinks Daisy Ridley delivers a good performance, but as long as he explains clearly why her character is quite a catastrophe, I can only concur 😃)

It was a joke to dis avatar

Which is a very good movie so I don’t get the joke. You should watch it again (the extended cut is better), it’s incredibly well made and filled with ideas, concepts and with mythological depth (not to mention that Cameron is a “cineast”, not just a “director”). Something that is sadly lacking in TFA…

Do you have a statistic to back that up or…

The only thing I’ve seen that alludes to that is the imdb score going drom 8.3 to 8.2

Avatar was almost as bad as anime.

I can’t attest to the quality of the film as I have never seen it but I can say it was forgettable. By the time 6 months had passed gone the conversations were. Consumed by The Dark Knight.

Say what you will about TFA but for good or for bad we’re still talking about the film.

Well it’s not like we’re on originalavatar.com

I liked Avatar and TFA, so you’re all wrong.

“this film was more a retrenchment to things you had seen before and characters you had seen before” - JC

Which was the admitted purpose of the movie? Except for the “visual imagination” part, this excerpt isn’t really bashing as much as him seeing what TFA was supposed to do, reintroduce the universe to new fans by doubling down on what people liked from the OT.

I tried to read that review, but quickly became exhausted. there were some good points, but lots of bad points as well. not sure it said anything that wasn’t said many times before.

I read up until the point in which he said Rey was confident even though she said “I can do this…I can do this” in a semi panicked voice. I don’t have anytime to look at rants where people jump to conclusions when they’re dead wrong. If someone could post bullet points I would like to read them but fuck reading the thing in it’s entirety.

Well I meant people talking about Avatar in general.

I agree about the retreading of things we’ve seen before to a point but not as it pertains to the characters. The only character in TFA that resembles a character in the OT is Poe and Supreme Leader Snoke but Poe is not even a 3 dimensional character and Snoke while having a similar visual design could still have distinctive personality traits. To be honest we haven’t seen enough of him to call him an outright Palpatine rehash.

Aren’t they making sequels to that movie?

Didn’t you get the memo? Cameron is making four sequels to Avatar! He’s much too busy to sign off on HD transfers of The Abyss or his other films that still aren’t on Blu Ray yet. 😉

The Force Awakens: My Review

Overall, I thought it was a very good movie. I think that the plot, story, and characters were done very well. It was a great introduction to the new trilogy. Now you say, what more could a fan ask for? Well, I could ask for a hell of a lot more, but I think TFA delivered. I love the new characters that were introduced, and I think that most of the older characters were handled gracefully. It really does feel like a Star Wars film, unlike the prequels. The think that really solidifies it for me is how it feels better every time I watch it. I think that’s a characteristic of a really good movie. The same applies to the soundtrack — every time I listen it gets better. So, to conclude, I’d give the movie solid eight out of ten.

I remember when I first went to TFA I was dressed up as a Jedi and I was waiting in line hoping that this would not be another TPM and thank heavens it wasn’t. I heard a lot of fans say that it’s the new version of ANH, honestly I don’t care as long as it wasn’t a rehash of TPM. Anyways I remember everyone in the audience cheered when the Millennium Falcon came on screen and Han and Chewie etc. Well after getting introduced to all the new characters I bet everyone will cheer for them in Episode VIII. I know I will for when Finn comes on screen because out of all the performances of the “good characters” I liked John Boyega’s the most, than I obviously loved Ben Solo (AKA Kylo Ren) as the villain I thought he was just brilliant and I remember people complaining about how whiny his character was but than I would just compare his whinyness to that of Hayden Christiansen’s. Anyways I can’t wait to see everything progress in Episode VIII.

By the way Han shot first.

I made it halfway through Avatar and couldn’t continue it bothered me so much. I felt insulted by how bad the script was for a movie that cost half a billion dollars to make.

Even after 7 months, I believe THE FORCE AWAKENS still holds up as one of the best SW films yet. What I wouldn’t give for a theatrical re-release with ROGUE ONE. It was the best cinema going experience I’ve ever had – despite the film being letterboxed and on a tiny screen. Only doing IMAX from here on out with SW films.

The ending is still incredible. Curious as to what everyone’s reaction was with the Luke Skywalker reveal? I recall the crowd in the theater being very quiet (and most likely surprised) and not clapping until the credits. All the other returning characters were given a huge reaction.

Agreed. Maybe we’ll see a theatrical re release of all the films after Episode IX.

I think everybody was just stunned at that moment. Or maybe they were just too tired to clap.

As I said before there will probably be cheering and clapping for all the new characters this time around in Episode VIII.
