I really don’t understand what’s awkward about it.
The idea is that the more Disney/Lucasfilm discusses a new OOT release, the more they will have to publicly discuss George’s wishes regarding that mess, what is/isn’t canon. The ways in which they could promote the OOT are a bit of a diss to the later versions.
I don’t really think this is the case, though, and there is a respectful line they can walk while still promoting the hell out of it (“See it again for the first time ever blah blah”). There are a few diehard Lucas fanboys who have been convinced that the originals need to remain buried, but it’s of no importance that the marketing cater to them if their SE versions are still for sale.
