I went through an anime phase when I was younger, but then I grew up.

I still can’t understand how animation media specifically from Japan is inherently juvenile.

One thing that I can hardly stand is the kind of person who sees “anime” differently from other animated media. Even use of the term “anime” bothers me at times, because it’s already displaying it as being different from other “cartoons”. I say this regarding both sides of the matter.

I have a close friend who’s the kind of guy who pretty much takes anime religiously (not like he literally worships anime). He will watch any anime because it’s anime. He doesn’t like all anime because it’s anime, but it will still get special consideration for being anime. I love the guy, but I am constantly bothered by his mindset on anime.

Then you have people like Tyrphanax seems to be. They think all anime is terrible and juvenile, because it’s anime. It’s like they have this hateful grudge against it’s existence. Or my racism jokes might actually be true for some, who knows?

Tyrphanax has insinuated his being annoyed by the use of goofy/over-the-top artistic expressions in anime. If you don’t like the way most Japanese artists display such things, that’s fine. Nobody should be forced to like anything. I just ask that you stop being so insulting whenever you speak about it; to the content, the creators, and the viewers.

Also, thinking about the topic of expressions, I’d just like to make a note. Most animated TV series’ in Japan started out as comic books. I’m pretty sure that a lot of the development of those expressions happened through the motionless pictures on the page, not on the small screen.
