I'm with you Chaltab.
To me, Rap is Retards Attempting Poetry.

I listen to all kinds of music. Rap, might be the only kind that I will make the blanket statement that I cannot stand it.
I don't like opera, but there are portions of Mozart's The Magical Flute I enjoy. I couldn't sit through an opera, but I could easily hand-pick arias and such that I will listen to.
Disco is an abomination, yet if I hear YMCA or Turn the Beat Around, I cannot help but start tapping a toe or humming along.

I agree with that.. Though I've never heard of "The Magical Flute". The irony is that my brother accuses me of being narrow-minded about music, and yet the only genre's he ever listens to are Heavy Metal and Rap. The only rap song I've ever really liked was Dear Slim by KJ52.

wow in ways that is the most igornant statement i have read in a long time. just saying that shows that you are only listening to things like 50 cents, trick daddy and shit like that, which I personally consider pop or hip hop or R&B not rap. the truth is that most rap songs have more meaning and truth in them then the average rock/classical/any other genra of music.

listen to songs like Stan by eminem, or harlem streets by immortal technique and youll hear something educational rather the soem pussy ass idoit talking about how much he loves some girl( which is what almost every rock song is about). you listen to some of tupacs old songs and some of those have more meaning in them then anything i have ever heard. maybe problem isnt the song but your interpretion of them.

I hope you realize that Marshal Mather is probably the primary reason I don't like rap.

Besides, I'm not critisizing you for liking rap, Shimraa, give me a break. I was just replying to what Starkiller said. It's not like I hate rap uniformed either. Plus there is some rap I can tolerate, such as when Linkin Park raps to rock music.

that post wasnt directed at you chaltab dont worry, as for eminem i know there are some songs by hims that are really stupid, like purple pills, but if you were to listen to some of his albums he has alot of good megs in them. as for linkin park all singing involves rap like lyrics, again i consider groups like linkin park and sum 41 rock/punk. i really like them too.

but enough about this rap stuff

MESSAGE TO ALL IF YOU DON'T LIKE RAP OR DON'T KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT IT TO HELP ME YOU SHOULDN'T POST HERE CUS WE WILL JUST GO OFF TOPIC. IF YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT THAT MAKE YOUR OWN THREAD.

You can go with anything by Sugarhill Gang or, my personal fave, "White Lines" by Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel.

I'll just respond, then go away from the thread.
No, actually, I'm NOT listening. I cannot stand to listen.
The # 1 stop for kids on the library computers is Yahoo!Music (previously known as Launch).

Maybe the music is good and I'm not giving it a chance, but I've seen the same kids for years, watching them grow, and I've watched what happened to them as they grow WITH THIS MUSIC and it almost frightens me.
Every other word is 4-letters.
Talking about murdering family, friends, etc.
(And don't get me started on the actual music videos...I've seen R movies that were less graphic. Dancing poles and clothes covering less than the handkerchef I carry in my pocket.)

That is not the "meaning and truth" I see.

Last thing: I own 1 cassette, it came from a box of cereal, that has rap on it. A single of Kid and Play's Ain't Gonna Hurt Nobody.

ill reply to that, see again what you for the mort part is a style called crunck which is a mix of pop and rap. that i agree has no meaning. but what i am refering to are songs like lose yourself listen to that song and tell me what you think.

on a side note I always found it funny how kids listen to that kid of music. they don't really know what it means they jsut think its cool.

Lose Yourself is just a rap version of an escapist ballad, replacing drugs or women with music, which is admittedly more positive... But at the same time, I'm not sure I wan't to be lost in the kind of 'music' Slim Shade E propogates.

there are alot of good songs and a few bad songs that are done by him, unfortunately he bad songs get more of the media attention and so ppl think all of his songs are bad. here is another song, listen to sing for the monent,

"But everybody just feels like they can relate
I guess words are a motherfucker
They can be great
Or they can degrate, or even worse
They can teach hate"

now tell me what kind of meg does that send. is it telling kids to go and do bad shit OR is it tell kids to pay attention to what they are listening to.

*sigh* How can we take his anti-hate speach seriously when he uses language like that?

Plus, that's one song. What about the songs about taking pills; about killing people? Rap is full of that, and even if Emenim has a few supposedly positive songs, it doesn't change that most of the genre is full of crap. Not only that, but it is not just the message but the general beat of rap that grates on me for some reason.

It is partially a matter of morality to me, but also one of simple personal taste.

my point is that he just doesnt have a few songs like that. the majority of his song have megs like that. the songs like purple pills are in the minority. and really what is soo bad about saying a swear word, it is just a word. you can project more emotion and intention in one swear words then with a dozen other carefully picked one. that is one thing that i just don't get about society.

if its one of personally taste i cant argue with you but if it is about morality...

lets just agree to disagree.

really this wouldn't even be an issue in my mind if it wasnt for ingornant statements like " Retards Attemping Poetry" i dont go and make fun of the type of music you guys listen to so you shouldn't do it with music i like.
