Chaltab, Brits (and others) tend to have a different interpretation of "pound" seeing as how it's their native monetary system. Most other nations tend to have keyboards that reflect their distinctive characters and alphabets. Some may opt to use the same keyboard as we do, but the option is there to use one that more readily facilitates typing characters they would use that we wouldn't. We can still get many of those characters using ASCII keystrokes with the Alt key and a four-digit combination.

To see the British "pound" sign, look at HotRod's post a few above. It looks like a scripted "L" with a midline through it. Apparently, on western European keyboards, it's shift 3 to get the symbol. Here, shift 3 also gets "pound", just a different one.

We're weird like that.
