I was just commenting on that people will go to see it again, recut or not. I've heard since last february that it would be re-released every Easter in theatres. Whether every Easter is true or not, I can't say, but I doubt it will be a bust at the box office this year.

I don't think it will. Those who wanted to see it, already did it. Too much time has passed since it was released in video. The whole hype around this movie is gone, specially now, after the oscars, where it got little to no mentions. It won't have a large distribution, so it'll be confined to a small selected theaters distribution. And after people realize it's a cut version... well, I predict it won't go well.

Maybe; but somehow I doubt that it's no-show at the oscars would have anything to do with whatever lack of sucsess it encounters.

I just read recently about how some groups want it rereleased in theaters every Easter just like Chaltab said. But this, of course, would be dependent on demand. I get the feeling that any repeated rerelease will only happen in maybe a few select cities and that's it for like one or two weeks around Easter for one or two showings a day on a single screen and that's it. It will likely be a case where the theater itself actually purchases a copy of the film to keep. Kinda like that theater in Atlanta that always shows Gone With the Wind each year. It won't be enough to really affect its overall theatrical gross. Beyond this year, that is. This year's rerelease will bring in some cash, like I said. But only enough to bring it to #2 overall.

What would be funny is if Cameron decides, upon reading this plan, to go ahead and release his upcoming DVD recut of Titanic in theaters first to bring up the overall take to secure its lead on Passion. I know he's got a new DVD set of the film prepped for this year. It would be funny if he pushed back the retail release and put it in theaters. Maybe go IMAX or something.

Heh.

I also heard that it would never be released on video, but we all know how that turned out.

So, maybe "The Passion of the Christ" will be the religious version of "Rock Horror Picture Show"?

Here's a link to the official site for "The Passion Recut": Official Site. It includes a QuickTime clip of Mel explaining why he decided to do the recut and release it to theatres, and there are links to get supplementary DVDs and other information for church groups, which is clearly Mel's target with this rerelease.

On a completely unrelated note, for those Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven fans out there, Canada is the only place to see the R-rated cut of Cursed, with the exception of BC and Saskatchewan. The US got the neutered PG-13 cut.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Doesn't bother me any, considering I've heard that cursed is abysmal.

Actually I don't have any idea who Tim Curry is, but if he's in drag, then I'm staying away.

You'd recognize him if you saw his face:

So, do you think think that Mel pull all the original edition DVDs off the Shelf, release the Recut on DVD and then pretend that the original no longer exists?
