If star wars isn’t episode IV, why is ESB episode V? I know it’s a change, but it’s a change made before ROTJ even came out. Nobody cared until 1997.
To be fair, no one knew what a slippery slope of endless alteration would be heralded by the acceptance of that first notable change (ignoring '77 audio mix inconsistencies). It wasn’t a big deal then, but now it is basically “first blood” in this war of SE aggression, which is why many of us are adamant about rolling the changes all the way back (past changes predating the SEs). I, for one, was a little miffed when I found that I grew up watching a version of Star Wars that was modified more than just to “fit my screen”. I’ve developed a new fondness and attachment to the '77 crawl since then, and whenever I think of the '81 crawl what should be nostalgia for it has been replaced with distinctly negative feelings about the lie it was perpetrating.
(And, Hell, if they’d even at least used the original star field and tried to make it all aesthetically fit the original, that might have been one thing, but it is the freaking ESB star field, and if the current SSEv1.6’s '81 crawl is at all accurate, it stands out like a sore thumb. Lazy and shoddy, no thank you.)
