I just dropped by to throw in some facts. Films cannot be objectively bad or good as there is no objective measure for that. And yes, opinion cannot be wrong or right. And the person who came up with the dumb example of moon landing dispute should better educate himself on a difference between an opinion and a claim.

Yes, thank you. You can have your own opinions, but you can’t have your own facts. Your view on the quality of a movie is an opinion. It’s subjective and there is no way to measure it as objectively true or not. But your view on the actuality of the moon landing is, as you put it, a “claim” that is dependent on the facts. It’s either true or not true, because either the moon landing happened (it did) or it didn’t happen. That is a matter of fact, not opinion. Whether Revenge of the Sith is a good movie or not is not.

Preach the truth. Maybe some of it can eventually rub off on Frink.

Just the same as:

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN OBJECTIVELY BAD ICE CREAM FLAVOR

Flavor would be in comparison to a genre or style. I think an ice cream recipe would be a better comparison when speaking of a specific film.

I never thought of it that way 😃 Even better solidifies my point

Or perhaps comparing brands like Breyers vs Turkey Hill or something.

I have never seen so many people take an obviously sarcastic post so seriously. Well done!

Put aside ROTS for a moment. You guys all seriously believe there is no such thing as an objectively bad movie? Have you seen The Room? I love The Room, but every single thing about it is objectively bad. Terrible directing, terrible writing, terrible acting, terrible terrible terrible.

Just try to prove me wrong on that one.

I have a soft spot for Jaws the Revenge yet its widely regarded as one of the worst movies EVER!! Pffft please I’ve seen worse. Yes it is FAAAARRRRRRR from a perfect movie. Shark is faker than ever, no Roy Scheider, shark explosion is utter BS, you guys can fill in the rest. But for something to pop in once and a while for shits and giggles I can tolerate it. Whether there are films that a majority can view as objectively bad doesnt change the fact we’re only speaking of a certain group of people and ignoring the fact there is a group of people who think otherwise. Case and point, put all of the SW fans in one room. Let’s say 85% all agree the PT is utter garbage. Again thats a majority. There’s still 15% who think differently on the subject. Not to mention I’ve seen people comment here who said they saw the PT trilogy first so it’d be unfair for us to hold it against them for liking them.

This is my point. If a film were objectively terrible, then there would be no point in arguing why YOU like it.

Whoa, settle down there cowboy.

Who knows? Someone might like it. You can’t objectively say a certain Ice cream flavor is the best for example.

It baffles me you still think film is objective. Film being subjective is one of the primary reasons that movies are considered an art.

Well, if there was a planet populated by humanoids who all act and talk like the characters in The Room, and they happened to get a hold of the movie and watch it …

This “muh opinion” shit is never productive. It just stops people from actually talking about the subject’s merits whether the merits are objective or not.

God Damn! A movie can suck or be good to anyone!!! If it is objectively bad then there is absolutely no point of discussion! Film is art and art is subjective!!

EXCLAMATIONS!!!

What about films that are trying to be bad (Syfy, Asylum, etc.)? If it’s their objective to be bad, aren’t they objectively bad?

And who says art can’t be objectively good or bad? I can think of plenty of example, like in music. Michael Jackson’s 1987 album Bad for instance.

There are people in the world who don’t like it. I love that album but some might not.
