What is wrong with... Attack of the Clones? - a general discussion thread — Page 20

And to think you guys complained about a sentient computer running for office.

First of all I didn’t complain about anything. Secondly, a sentient computer can’t drink the vodka so that makes it unqualified for running for any type of political position.

well, in all fairness, SAND.

the PT still uses some sets and miniatures, so its not entirely CGI.

The sets and miniatures are coated in layers of CGI, so it doesn’t really count.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

Seriously, I don’t speak Russian. I have a couple of friends who do, though.

Confusing Kyrgyz with Russian? Oh, you better believe that’s a paddlin’.

This is always my response to “but you know they used more miniatures in the PT than ever before” line. Yeah that’s great, but when you alter the shit out of the shots to the point that you can’t that it’s a miniature, you’ve gone too far.

I’ve read the first 4 pages of this thread and one thing that I don’t think was mentioned yet is that the plots of all 3 prequels films are very similar. They always have the main characters together for the first act. In the second act, they split up, and in the 3rd act they come back together. If you you think about it the plots of TPM, AOTC, & ROTS are all very similar. I think this is a common trait of directors, but especially in the case of George Lucas. I think George avoided keeping main characters together for too long because it is easier to write dialogue with strangers than people who know each other. This is why it is good that Disney is having the sequel trilogy written & directed by different people. If the same person makes the films for a film franchise for too long, they get and stale and repetitive as seen with the prequels vs. the OT.

I agree ^

And I hadn’t ever really noticed that about the prequel’s characters. I’ve watched them a lot over the years, far more than I should have, and I’ve always tried to see positive things in them but that’s something new to add to the list.

It’s not a very long list, but still.

you know whats really wrong with Attack of the Clones? those damn Christians, or as they call them, “Sith”, taking any chance they get to jump on the bandwagon of war and screw everything up. if it wasn’t for religion, the galaxy would be a much better place smh

In fairness, ESB was the Star Wars movie with the least input from George and even it split the characters up in the middle.

There’s nothing wrong with splitting up the characters, but copying that formula three more times is Lazy. So, in ESB it’s fine because it’s done the first time.

Except that is probably the single most common thing to do in a story. It isn’t just Star Wars, it just just about everything out there. Any time you have a group of characters, you get through more story, have more interesting dialog, and just about everything else is more interesting when you split the company up. Some characters get into more trouble that way. It is probably the single most common story structure I am aware of.

In Star Wars, the heroes are not split up in the middle, they meet in the middle.

I know this is just a trolling post, but if there’s any religious analogy, clearly the only thing that makes sense is Jedi = Christians or, more specifically, Jedi = Knights Templar and Clone Wars = Crusades. I actually wish that analogy was expanded upon a bit more, could have been cool. The OT (SW specifically) paints the Jedi more in this way (“damn fool idealistic crusade”). Would have been cool if there was actually some sort of ideological underpinning to the Jedi being in the Clone Wars and would have been even cooler if it ended up factoring into their downfall.

Sorry Hans, wrong spelling. Would you like to go for double jeopardy where the words can really change?

I still don’t get why Obi-1 goes to a weird library, then interrupts Yoda teaching a class; when narratively he should simply travel to Kamino after his CGI friend tells him about the planet. Well, in this regard, I don’t get why (someone) bothers erasing a planet from the maps, but leave behind a dart that leads to said planet. It’s conspiracy/mystery porn.
