Why no TFA Blu-ray commentary track?

My only disappointment with the TFA Blu-ray was the lack of a commentary track. I would have loved to hear Abrams and the cast talk about the movie, but instead we got nothing. Just seems like a waste to me. Every other SW DVD and Blu-ray has at least one commentary track. Even the 93 Definitive Collection laserdisc had them, lackluster though they may have been. What gives?

I am 100% sure that they will go the “Star Trek Compendium” way and we’ll get a new release with a commentary and actual deleted scenes in a few years.

Why does every thread in this place go hilariously off track so quickly these days? It’s brilliant, keep it up guys!

Anyway, just to play devil’s avocado for a second. Perhaps all involved didn’t have time to record one? These are legitimately busy people after all. Maybe there just wasn’t time before the mass production of the discs began to get it done. There’s a 3D release apparently coming before the end of the year so that could have a commentary on it.

Or maybe they decided the bonus disc documentary said everything they needed to about the movie? It did seem quite comprehensive.

I did miss seeing the trailers on the blu-ray. I occasionally go back and watch the OT and PT ones and the print campaigns were fun too. There was nothing at all on this release though - I suppose the powers that be decided against it because everything’s up on YouTube these days.

Wow, am I ever glad I got out of the house this afternoon! 😉

A double dip with new extras timed to the next film in 2017 seems likely. Has JJ done many commentary tracks? (I only have Trek '09 besides TFA.) I would be more interested in a cast commentary at this point though.

Where were you in '77?

Into Darkness’ track was a digital exclusive, so is 10 Cloverfield Lane (which he only produced), but Super 8 has one on disc. It may be just a timing thing.

JJ’s commentaries are normally very good/interesting when he does them, which made it’s absence worse. Still given how quickly the BR/DVD came to market, I was pleasantly surprised with what we got. Hopefully a LOTR style deluxe edition will come along in the near future.

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

It’s also curious the movie has no indication of THX mastering. Don’t they do that anymore at Lucasfilm?

I haven’t seen a THX logo in forever.
