If you’re watching it on a screen that outputs 1080p, it’s kind of already doing that. Plus as it’s been said there’s not the biggest difference in quality:

This reminds me of the 2gb encode discussions…

Harmy, quick question. When did you and towne32 agree to allow him to make De-Ed v2.7 ?

Quick question, why do you care?

Quicker question, why do you care?

At the risk of losing points for not posting my avatar, I just don’t understand why someone else would care when these two made an agreement. Does this guy have a bet on it? Does he think he’s a government agent checking on tax implications? Is he a jilted former lover? WHAT’S GOING ON HERE???

Mr. TvFrink, I was only asking because I plan on downloading the De-Ed v2.7 MKV

I think when a new user comes in and asks about a side project of a fan edit that became “official”, that person has some idea he’s going to present to the fan editor. Therefore, it should probably be discussed at large to make sure it hasn’t been suggested before or isn’t already in the works.

JEDIT: He answers! No harm done then. Still odd he wanted to know the timeframe of the officiality of a fan edit.

Don’t sink it in, it already passed.
Still ROTJ 2.5 in a 19GB format has less quality… Kinda.

I understand that you’d want to be sure it was approved by Harmy, I just don’t understand why it would matter WHEN the agreement was made. Unless that was just a poor choice of words or I read it wrong.

It’s cause I caught notice of the Despecialized Editions back in 2014. Then, in April of this year I checked them out again. I saw that Harmy, on the first post, had edited the post in order to let people know that towne32 had made v2.7 and released it. I just wanted to make sure I was all caught with what had happened while I was absent

I was a bit curious myself. Was wondering if he thought it was rushed or something, but I guess not.

I mean, I could give a timeline of the project before and after making contact with Harmy about it. But it would hardly be anything of interest. The events are also pretty clear if you browse through my thread. At least from the time that I started it, onwards.

Too bad. I was really hoping he was a jilted lover.

Actually, I’m not 100% on when the towne32 version started taking precedence over Harmy’s V2.5, I had a copy of towne32’s early color correction, which he was basically just calling a color corrected V2.5, it was nice enough and Harmy was open to another take on the colors, though it was really just an encode of Harmy’s encode at that point; then next thing I know V2.7 was on the horizon with more GOUT despecialized scenes replaced with 35mm sources and apparently there was a V2.6 before that (possibly with some 35mm work, possibly even more honed colors than the color corrected V2.5, or maybe it was basically just the same as the CC’d V2.5 but officialized, I don’t really know the details on that), though V2.6 didn’t get an official announcement on Harmy’s SW project thread (this one) but the version number bump seemed to indicate there was agreement on towne32 progressing the project… I guess there were enough things known to need to be done on top of whatever was done to V2.6 that waiting for V2.7 for endorsement was known early enough in the V2.6 release cycle… Was V2.6 made using Harmy’s raw sources… was V2.7? Do we even know who we are anymore???

Anyway, congrats on hitting your 600th page of this thread, Harmy!

I am not a videophile. But I do have to say this about the lower resolution. Lots of red. Makes the Blu-Ray’s problems with magenta seem nonexistent. No offense by the way, Mr. HanisG

I think you squandered an opportunity. what you describe would have been legitimately lame/interesting. lameresting? What you did is just annoying.

@Harmy

There are a few issues with the french srt file, regarding the translation. I believe they are partially based on the original dubbing which was quite flawded. Here is an example:

293
00:32:37,855 --> 00:32:42,555
– Je l’ai si peu connu…

Well, as far as I remember Luke has never known his father, so the proper translation of “I wish I knew him…” is “J’aurais aimé le connaître…”.

I don’t know French or if there is a problem here. But I think you’re looking for Catbus rather than Harmy for a matter like this.

Thanks. I’m also pretty sure there is a sound “click” in the first half of the french track but I forgot to write the timing down so I’ll come back when I’ve checked this issue further. It might be a native issue of the original track used (1993 LD or 2006 DVD ?).

Anyway, thanks for this hard work Harmy.

Issues with the audio tracks might also be better discussed with Catbus or hairy_hen (not sure who is responsible for the French track). Basically, Harmy does the video and uses audio/subs from those guys. 😃

I’ve got someone redoing all the French subs for me, with better translations all around–but mail me any changes to the existing ones anyway, in case those plans don’t pan out.

As for the audio, it’s straight off the PAL GOUT, slowed down. If there are glitches, they’re from that source. German and Spanish tracks have been cleaned up using Laserdisc audio–I suppose we could do the same for French, if we had a click-free track to patch it over with.
