I am just gonna post my unofficial x264 mkv of 2.7 on the spleen, but I need to have permission so that I can post it, so can I, just post it?

Pretty sure I wrote something earlier, while being helpful on how to compress your own version, stating very clearly to do so only for your own personal use and NOT to share it anywhere, ESPECIALLY since you don’t know what the Hell you are doing. For the love of God, the last thing you should actually do is share that anywhere, it would be a complete disservice to the Despecialized Edition effort. No one here wants you to do it or would be at all okay if you go ahead and do it anyway. If you like watching your own version that most of us who know more about video compression would consider unwatchable, that is good for you; please don’t contribute to the problem of us having to deal with complaints from people who get files like this and think the problems they encounter have anything to do with the creator-endorsed versions.

WORD

There’s enough clutter in the Star Wars section of the spleen as it is.

I think you’re being bit precious. I can’t see that many people downloading a 2gb version of an HD movie and then being so concerned about the quality that they would join this forum & then post a complaint.

Call me crazy, but it’s a free market. If people want it, let them download it.
Just do the courtesy of posting a decent .nfo and screenshots

There’s courtesy to the customers and there’s courtesy to the creators. Courtesy to the creators means not needlessly flooding the market with lower-quality knockoffs, so much so that it’s hard to tell you’re not getting the real thing. We get quite enough of that already (mostly from Lucasfilm, but I digress). It’s not like customers can’t take the real thing and re-encode it for themselves.

I understand why people wouldn’t want to or even have the ability to download a 20 GB file. They might not have the bandwidth speeds needed, their ISP may shut them down, they might not have the storage space to spare, etc. So I don’t think there is any harm in offering a lower quality alternative. If it’s encoded efficiently by someone who knows what they are doing and clearly marked as a re-encode there’s no problem with it. It will still beat the hell out of the GOUT or a Laserdisc and we want as many people as possible to have access to the OOT right? Not really much of a “preservation” if only a handful can get ahold of it.

This is why the DeEd’s are also available in DVD9 AVCHD format, and DVD5 NTSC format. Now nobody has to download a 20GB file. Hooray, problem solved before it even existed! Incidentally, the DVD5’s are at least not historically made by Harmy himself, but by someone who saw the need for something a little more universally accessible, sought Harmy’s approval, got it, and then released it. Emphasis mine. The world does not need even more “Yo Dawg I see you like Despecialized” releases than we already have cluttering up the torrent sites.

Precious? Quite a compliment, even though you’ve never actually met me… I’ll take it.

And yes, I do realize there is a high quality, low file size segment not currently met by the sanctioned releases, what I’m saying is that by no means should that gap be filled by someone brand new to Handbrake and (stated himself at the top of this very page) thinks it is similar in function to TSMuxer… There are plenty of shitty encodes out there on torrent sites already, and those are done by people who know much, much more about reencoding than him, so I can only imagine how bad it would be (Hell… did he even remove the black bars? What if he didn’t and it is still in the 2GB range… it’d be EVEN WORSE than we’re already thinking…) Anyway, if a really talented encoder wanted to take a stab at a sanctioned mobile version, I think people here would be open to the idea. Just not this.

Also, we’ve already had people recently come to these forums because of the reencodes they got God knows where… Harmy bitched him out about the shitty quality of the screenshots he posted from it. I’m not being paranoid.

Anyways, I saw that in the movie, 3PO jumps out of nowhere when the hologram of Princess Leia happened, I decided to fix it with a last minute take on it, the masking is bad, but you get it

Making him teleport is not a continuity fix. Did you really just render something and then take a cam recording of it and upload the cam to youtube to show us?

I think this guy is trying to live up to his darth jar jar avatar.

Do you think the account is used for trolling 100% of the time, or just that his actual questions are essentially on par with the ones that are trolling and/or jokes?

Well, his jokes are almost all not funny… So, maybe he IS Jar-Jar… Actually, being Jar-Jar is probably a bannable offense.

Dafuq? Anyway, how’s the project going along so far (besides real life things)?

Well, it is completed so I would say the project is going well in that sense. 😃

Maybe the way he says the things he is thinking out loud makes him more Ric Olie than Jar-Jar… who knows, but there’s something definitely Episode I about his behavior… Anyway, a break from that perplexing nonsense does sound good, thanks Dat_SW_Guy!

Congrats on finishing your project towne32! 😉

In all seriousness though a huge portion of us are 100% in favor of fixing 3PO’s unexpected movements, it’s like a silent majority. You can rag on the guy all you want but it’s something I’ve been PM’ing Harmy about every week for at least 3 years and I know I’m not alone.
