Idea & Info: 'Dragon Ball Z' Laserdiscs - any interest in a preserving these?

The 13 DBZ movies were released on Laserdisc in Japan between 1991 and 1996, while Dead Zone, The World’s Strongest, and The Tree of Might were released in the US by Pioneer alongside the DVDs.

I’d definitely like to see these preserved. The Japanese LDs in particular have two separate channels in their audio mixes, one for music and effects and another for dialogue. The former could prove useful for creating isolated scores of Shunsuke Kikuchi’s beautiful music. Furthermore they could be synched up to the Dragon Box video for a real audio-visual treat.

Does this interest anyone besides me?

It sure as hell interests me. Hopefully someone is willing to contribute(I would if I could!)

What is most interesting to me is the odds that they could be used to color correct the Dragon Box.

That, and the M&E tracks.

On another note it would be VERY interesting to find the stereo audio tracks for these movies, which do exist(at least for a few of them I believe). I have a snippet of from the second Cooler movie somewhere on my computer…

I have no idea where or who they came from though.

For the record, Movie 13 has a stereo, even surround (I think) audio track on the Dragon Box DVD.

i’m interested in helping with this preservation effort.

were the DBZ movies originally animated for full-frame 4:3 and cropped to 16:9 for theatrical presentation, or animated/theatrically released at 16:9 and cropped to 4:3 for home video?

i recall reading that the dragon box movie editions were widescreen. is there a comprehensive outline of which releases (besides some likely garish Fvnnymation releases) have the most picture information for each film?

They were animated in 4:3 and matted to 16:9 for cinemas.

Got it. So these are full frame and not letterboxed?

Gonna do some research on video capture solutions for Mac.

I am unsure of the aspect ratio presented on the Laserdisc since I’ve never seen it before on the Internet.

I think some of the movies might have been released LB on laserdisc, I know that’s what they did with Sailor Moon.

I think we determined that the best video source for movies…was it 7-11?..was R2FR, they did a 4:3 remastering.

I believe you are right about those French DVDs. I’d love to have those ISOs on my HDD.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who cares about these LDs haha.

I just checked.

The isos I have are labelled “volume 6”, “volume 7” and “volume 8”, with “6” containing the Trunks special plus “Super Android 13”, “7” has “Broly” and “Bojack Unbound”, “8” has “Broly: Second Coming” and “Bio-Broly” (with the credits removed, for some reason). So movies 7-11?
