Well I take “It’s not as good as people says it is” as saying “I know better than everyone else” or “You should trust my opinion over most others” but that’s just me.

we can’t and just have to assume that his comments were made in good faith.
I’m sure he didn’t have any malicious intent with that post but taken at face value the post indicates that his point of view on the film holds more weight than others. Had he said something like “I don’t feel as though this film is as good as people have led me to believe” the entire feel of the post would have been totally different even though he was essentially saying the same thing.
Or it means “people are excited now, so they rate it high, after a while they may see it differently”.
