I think it’s more the people who insist that a 400 year old translation of the Bible specifically designed to be anti-Puritan/pro-Church of England is somehow more holy than any other translation made in modern English using more accurate original sources.

I don’t know about the whole debate, but from what I’ve read, the KJV is much more poetic and straightforward, while the new translations are very watered down and often so concerned about direct translation that they are wordy and awkward.

I’m not sure why it matters what translation you read. I like NKJV, and personally prefer KJV, but there isn’t “one above all” or anything like that.

Sure, but DE is specifically referring to the KJV-only people. There was a church not far from my (Bible) college that had a sign that insisted if you weren’t reading KJV you were going to hell.

Good point, but his use of the word “King” as a title strikes me as a clear endorsement for a return to a monarchical government.

^It’s become a cult classic among today’s youth. We all grew up on TV airings of it. It’s a horrible movie but I can’t hate it because I watched it several times on TV when I was young(er) and loved it.

I think HansiG has a good point. All of those things are loved by a large amount of people. People are upset with the new Ghostbusters because it’s an unfunny and un-needed reboot of a beloved classic comedy. Some view it as an obvious cash-grab that’s trying to appeal to the ‘feminist’ crowd with a ‘girl-power’ message. I don’t necessarily agree with this, but it’s far more nuanced than “I ain’t gon’ see that movie cuz there’s womanz in it.” I haven’t seen anyone ever espouse the latter position, but I’ll concede that if anyone does hold that view, they’re stupid.
But it appears the conversation has moved on, so I’ll leave it there.
