I've read the script twice. Looks kinda like a dated version of 1984. Those chrome cops look cool, though

Has the original version that Lucas did in grad school ever made the home video route? The one that predates the Robert Duvall version?

If not, it would certainly be a great special feature for this eventual DVD release. I don't think this is a particularly long movie, is it?

Seriously? Hell, both versions should be special features on another DVD. And, of course, the demand for this will make the price of the DVD ridiculous.

In a bizarre, subterranean-lived future, the "government" controls people thru drugs that keep them from rebelling and having sex. All procriation is controled, and people have numbers, not names. THX-1138 kinda rebels against it when he stops taking his drugs and consequently falls in love with... whatever number her "name" was.

Uh no... That's the plot for the 1970 film. I could not really understand what was the plot for the 1967 short. I've seen about 2 minutes of it, and it featured a man running in a maze of corridors, and some men watching him thru closed-circuit cameras. It had that eerie 60s technology look, you know?

If you're talking about THX-1138: THX-1138 stars Robert Duvall and Donald Pleasance and is about un underground city where all the people wear white and have shaven heads. The city is policed by robots in police uniforms who savagely beat anyone who disobeys with clubs. THX-1138 is the name of Duvall's character. Sex has been outlawed in the city, but THX-1138 starts falling for his female counter-part. Eventually THX-1138 and Donald Pleasance are arrested and put in a bright white room. They meet up with another inmate and all 3 of them escape. Pleasance is captured, but THX and the other guy make it to an underground road where they hijack two sports cars and escape. THX makes it outside the city, but the other guy dies in a wreck. On the outside of the city THX, still outrunning policemen, runs into mutants who want him for dinner. THX makes it to a ladder and escapes to the surface. The last scene is a beautiful image of Duvall coming out of the top of the ground with the sun shinning behind him.

The movie is very entertaining, but slow at certain moments. In contrast to Star Wars, THX-1138 is darker. And there's lots of artsy and weird scenes in the movie.
