Idea: Star Wars - Gag Edition

So I was reading somewhere online about Star Wars bloopers and someone suggested that someone should add bloopers to the Star Wars movies (wow, there was way too much vagueness in that sentence).

I was instantly fascinated by the idea, and decided to investigate further. This is the product.

Currently, I’m thinking of adding bloopers, out of place deleted scenes and even edited sequences to the OT, anything that would just seem hilariously out of place (although I don’t want too much of the former, that’s Frink’s speciality 😉). I just want to go for that feel and hopefully at the end of it have a quirky new way of watching the SW films.

So far, all I’ve got is a trailer, which should give you sort of a taste. Warning, that taste may change considerably between now and the release date. I think I’ll be using TeamNegative1’s scan as a base for SW, not sure yet for Empire and Jedi (if I ever even get onto doing those) but I want to keep a consistently analogue feel that the old footage conveys. I aim to have near to no CG in my edits.

If you have find any footage from the Original Trilogy that you think would fit in this edit please feel free to share and I’ll certainly take a look!

So what do you guys/girls/other non-gender specific term think? Go for it, or go die in a hole?

I like the idea. But it’ll be a pretty low percentage of scenes that have bloopers, right? So it’ll just be the film, mostly intact, but occasionally descending into madness? Or would there be other Frinkish types of silliness implemented throughout? Not sure what I’ll think of it, but I’ll check it out.

Thanks for your reply.
Well, that’s partly why I decided to implement some deleted scenes (but also because some of them really are very odd). I’m looking to have around 2 deleted scenes per film, with even more bloopers for each film.

So yeah, sure it would because (I think, or rather I hope) that is what I want the experience to be like. I still want it to be Star Wars. And sure, this certainly won’t appeal to all-mostly weird people like me.

Or would there be other Frinkish types of silliness implemented throughout

Now you see, I’m on the fence with this. The shot in the trailer is sort of the thing I had in mind. It’s kind of a gag on the fact that a lot of things in SW are reused from our own world, so I wanted to satire that in a way. I might add some Easter Eggs, I don’t know yet. Ultimately if it “fits” per say I’ll add near enough anything.

How silly is the film going to be in your edit? Will it be so silly people will be complaing to you because they wet their pants laughing, or is it going to be the original with a few laughs here and there.

Also a laugh track may be something to add if that’s what you’re looking for.

Good luck on this edit, looking forward to its completion!

You know what, you’ll just have to wait and see! I don’t anticipate it being a “non-stop adventure” of the sorts. As I said it needs moments of sanity for the insanity to be relatively insane. Honestly how funny you’ll find it entirely depends on you yourself.

Also a laugh track may be something to add if that’s what you’re looking for.

I’ve never been much of a fan of laugh tracks, because I seem to associate them with overrated shows (Big Bang theory etc) and truly funny shows (Family guy, Simpsons etc) don’t have need them.

I don’t think I’ll put them in this edit (also because it’s more work and I’m lazy) as I really don’t want to pretend this is anything other than Star Wars. In a way, I think it really is about being able to make the casual viewer feel this is a legitimate release and seeing how far they get into it before realising. That would be part of the fun.

This now sounds 10X more amazing!

Are you going to be using the theatrical versions or the special editions? I’d recommend using TN1’s grindhouse/silverscreen versions to better match the outtakes.

Yeah, I agree that the jarring switch from BD footage would ruin the unexpected blooper aspect.

I mean, most of the bloopers are such bad quality that even with the silver screen edition it’ll “jar”. And I don’t have any skills in the cleanup department. Still a lot better than the S****** E****** tho.

I also haven’t a clue where to find a comparable source for EpV+VI, although that truly is a question for another time.

In terms of an update, all I can say is I think I’m going to have more than just bloopers+scenes, seeing as most people want to see silliness, I’ll be (gently) sprinkling some throughout 😉 although they should all have some reason for them being there.

Some of the bloopers were introduced with great effect in The War of the Stars https://vimeo.com/151257979

Thank you very much! I had no idea, and that actually looks fantastic. I’ll have to see if the quality matches up, or significantly surpassed those freely available.

Actually I might as well ask, I’ve seen a thread somewhere on here referring to a sound package for faneditors, compiling many different sounds from the SW universe. Could anyone happen to have stumbled upon it as it may prove useful in revitalising some scenes.

This forum really needs a search function…

I actually found that accidentally a short while back, but it doesn’t seem like it’s finished yet. I thank you for your tip in any case.
