I don’t know what’s more shameful – that this piece of shit was shot here in Canada, or that I once considered it comedic gold.

Terminator Salvation (2009)

When I first saw this movie years ago, I thought it was an exercise in pointless mediocrity. Revisiting it, though, I find that it’s not nearly as weak as I remembered it; Anton Yelchin did an excellent job recapturing Michael Biehn’s performance as Reese, Bale did a pretty decent job as John, and the story was solid. The movie’s sins are pretty much just stylistic; had a better director been brought on board, the aesthetics and tone of the Future War scenes from the previous movies been utilized (by using the same cold, industrial colour grading, a Fiedel-inspired synth score, and plasma rifles), this movie would have been right up there with the first two Terminator movies.
