I recall there was quite a fuss when it was in theaters, at least online. The DVD wasn’t released until seven months later, an eternity compared to the time a movie takes to hit video these days.

Steven made it perfectly clear both versions would be available, and that mostly nipped the controversy in the bud. The only legitimate gripe was that one had to buy the more expensive box set to get the theatrical cut.

The packaging of the less expensive edition didn’t clearly identify that it was the 2002 cut either.

I can only imagine the conversations George and Steven have had about such things. 😉

There used to be a pro Prequels & Special Edition blogger who occasionally said some not very nice things about this site. (Although they claimed never to visit our forums.) They blew a gasket when they found out the 2002 cut wasn’t going to be on Blu Ray, and accused Spielberg of caving into fanboys and selling out.
