"Lucasfilm currently has no plans to release the original versions of Star Wars"

Very good article this week in the Wall Street Journal. Most likely OT.com was redacted, but Harmy, Adywan, and others were mentioned along with all of the important talking points.

I enjoyed the article until I read the last line:

Lucasfilm currently has no plans to release the original version of “Star Wars,” said a person familiar with the matter.

Who’s “a person familiar with the matter”? They could’ve pulled a hobo off the street to say that.

Probably whoever answered the phone at Lucasfilm that day. It’s half assed journalism. It’s already been pointed out in the original thread the inaccurate things they wrote about Adywan.

Well, “a person familiar with the matter” said it. There goes that. Other people familiar with the matter who have actual names have said the opposite though, of course, so there’s that.

A person familiar with me said “sounds reasonable.”

precisely.

I doubt very much any journalist actually went out and got an up to date statement. thats not how journalism works for the most part. They are just repeating the ‘common knowledge’, which will be true up until the moment that it isn’t.

Not that i think they are about to release the OOT, but one can hope.

Until a tentative release date is announced, the official response will be that they have no plans regarding the material.

It sounds like they just took that from the official response to the old petition.

That’s what I thought for a second, but I thought, “No way. They wouldn’t use a statement from ten years ago.” But given the Adywan falsehoods, it wouldn’t surprise me.

To Lucasfilm, bringing back the original versions would be like bringing back a discontinued product. Never releasing the movies makes sense only to the people running Lucasfilm, as those people probably don’t behave like the rest of humanity.

It was people at Lucasfilm that nudged George into releasing the bonus discs to begin with. Not their fault he took the cheap route.

That was to undercut the bootleg market anyways. Which would have never existed if George wasn’t an insane man that is sadistic to his fanbase.

I wouldn’t say sadistic, just childish and selfish.

Yep. His comments about TFA just show how childish he could be. Then Jett came on Twitter and basically attacked people for liking the movie and saying that we were the reason Lucas never made all those awesome movies he was going to make.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

Really? I need to see these tweets.

Not enough people read the EU.

They’re gone sadly. It was New Year’s Eve when they were up. The only one I could find was where he tried to brag about Phantom Menace being ahead of TFA in adjusted box office about 2 weeks after it came out.

Didn’t George say the saga was finished back in '05? What movies is Jett talking about?

I must have missed the part where armed men wearing Mickey Mouse hats broke into Skywalker Ranch, and forced George to sign away Star Wars to Disney.

I think this still gives us hope.I’m thinking something may happen next year for the anniversary. Surely they will not let that pass without doing something special.

They did nothing for the 30th anniversary, if I remember, because of the stupid decision to release the movies three times in three years.

As long as they are getting easy billions from boring rehash films like TFA, I don’t think they will be interested in making an effort for scraps like releasing theatrical OT.

That doesn’t even make any sense…

Also you really like to look for any excuse to use the word “rehash”.
