If you give it a week or so, it’ll be available in the normal places, otherwise you have to suffer getting a 20GB file through MEGA (I experienced many failures and then shameful security concessions to see it through…).

Alright. I was just wondering because I was planning to have some friends over this Saturday night and I wanted to screen the Despecialized edition(of Star Wars) for the first time, so I was hoping to get the most recent version out.

Well, I PMed you about it to see if you wanted the AVCHD. But now it looks like I’ve run out of time to get it to you before Saturday. My MKV link is down but maybe one of the kind people who has downloaded it would be willing to send it to you somehow?

I’m not keen on the differences of MKV vs AVCHD, we didn’t have computers when I was a youngster, so how are those formats exclusive? From a web browsing they are containers for video and audio but I don’t get why there are two kinds to store the same movie. Is it a capacity limitation or something more to this dual distribution?

The container (MKV vs. m2ts) isn’t really important, since they hold the same kind of audio and video. AVCHDs (which are m2ts) are size limited because they are designed to be able to burn to a dual layer DVD. So, in this case, the difference is an ~8gb file vs ~20gb and different video bitrates and audio quality.

Any idea of when the AVCHD will be released on the Spleen? Waiting very patiently for that, or at least trying to.

Towne, I believe earlier in the thread you mentioned that we will be seeing a limited release of 2.7 with the IV crawl. Is this going to be on Spleen? Also, will there be an AVCHD version?

Is it just me, or does 2.7 have more artifacts than 2.5? Like at 42:22-42:26 as Obi-Wan moves his head the artifacts around it are visible and move as well. But again, it could have also been his way in 2.5, I don’t have a copy right now so I could’nt verify it.
Otherwise, especially color-wise, I see a huge improvement. Awesome work!

I have no problems with people pointing out stuff like this. But I would request that people do please try to make the comparison before bringing it up, just to make sure that we can focus discussion on things that are definitely occurring. There are a bit of artifacts in this shot for both versions. Overall, I do not think 2.7 has more throughout the film since it was made from the same master using the same settings. But yeah, as far as blu-ray shots, those artifacts you point out are the most noticeable in the entire film for me and I’ve seen them in a variety of different encodes. I don’t know if it’s a matter of the VBR being low for the very low-movement shot and then needing to rapidly ramp up for the wipe or what.

I haven’t noticed anything watching that shot.

Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.

Can someone PM me with the MEGA link? I’m just going to put all 3 of the movies on a USB instead of a disc since it updates constantly.

Reading a few posts up, it looks like the link is dead and unavailable.

The normal download methods should be available soon, though. Patience will be rewarded.

Yeah. I know I’ve been saying ‘soon’ for a while. But I think I’ve managed to get the comparison shots completed so it should actually be quite soon.

Compared to this site’s About and Help sections… your version of soon is lightning fast!

Hey, it could be worse. There’s a certain fan made engine replacement for a certain Star Wars game for which the beta has been coming “soon” for about six years now. At least I have confidence that you’ll get this done by the end of the decade 😛

I downloaded 2.6 which is a bit outdated, but cant seem to play the m2ts file, how do I play the AVCHD?

What I did was:

  1. Mount the image with Daemon tools
  2. Rt click on the Drive in “My Computer” choose “Open”
  3. Rt click on the “BDMV” folder, choose “Play with VLC media player”.

Using this method works fine, but without Chap. markers or labeled
audio and subtitle tracks (they are simply numbered) no big deal.

I did download another player I use ONLY for AVCHD files.
“Total Media Theatre 6” it is no longer updated or supported
but it does show the chapters ect.

I have yet to burn a disk from a AVCHD yet, so I can’t advise on that.

I thought I recognized your foul stench when I entered this forum!

I just click on the m2ts file and it plays in VLC just fine on my PC.

Navigating folders at all on a mac makes me sad. As does finding if someone bothered to port a piece of software to it. 😃

Does it matter? I’m on a Mac and am able to do everything I need just fine and ever Windows user I know is just fine also. It’s an operating system, not a religion.
