I suppose it doesn’t necessarily, but wouldn’t if they were to release a restoration this year, why would they bother even showing the 97 version?
Mainly because it appears Alamo Drafthouse is showing 35mm prints of the '97 version, specifically, so I imagine they’ve gone to great lengths to secure these prints.
I’ve read that when a theater requests a 35mm Star Wars film to show, they can still get the 1997 version from Fox. Though the ones shown last year were the digital 1080p 2011 versions.
