If you had to keep one Special Edition change…?

Let’s say Disney is going to release something close to OUT but there’s a contract clause with Lucas or some bs requiring them to keep at least one SE change. This, of course, would never happen. However, if this hypothetical situation were real, which SE change would you be the least offended by if they kept it?

TL;DR - which change do you hate the least?

Personally, I pick the Cloud City windows.

The removal of the line across the screen for one frame in the Death Star battle.

Jedi rocks.

Just kidding.

Assuming the hypothetical situation means it’s the only version I can ever watch, and if we’re talking about only major noticeable changes, the better forced perspective in the Death Star hallway doesn’t bother me. The original matte painting actually distracts me from the focus of the scene every time I watch it.

Removal of matte lines. The sabers during the Vader vs Ben duel was also nice. Just adjust the instances where Bens saber is purple

I like “Victory Celebration” more than “Yub Nub” so I would keep the 1997 version of the ROTJ ending. So I would have the nice music, but no Hayden ghost or “Weesa free”.

I’d keep the new 20th Century Fox opening, so as not to change anything within the movie itself.

My second choice would be to leave in “Episode IV: A New Hope.”

Third would be the set extension in the scene just before the trash compactor.

“You don’t really mean you’ll kill me, do you?” - Juror 8
“Silence, Earthling! My name is Darth Vader. I am an extra-terrestrial from the planet Vulcan!” - Calvin “Marty” Klein

I love that old logo with the slanted “0.” Maybe we could keep “victory celebration” but with the original footage.

I like the original footage better except for the part when Luke congratulates Wedge.

I would add a single frame to the end of the credits. It would flash by, and it would say “obligatory edit so as to maintain contractual obligation to not release theatrical”

I decided to add a signature

I’ll go one for each film, otherwise it seems a bit like a cheat:

Star Wars - “Tell your uncle” instead of “Tell-uncle”. Maybe the recomp’d speeder.

Empire - “You’re lucky to get out of there”. Again, if it needs to be the picture instead of audio, then the “fix” to Han’s shirt.

Jedi - The recomps of the Rancor.

I’d keep:
-The Windows in Cloud City too.
-The shots of Cloud City when Lando makes the announcement.
-Some of the CGI shots from the Battle of Yavin.
-The coloring of R2-D2 that was corrected from the blue screen shots.
-Jabba’s larger palace door.
-1997 ROTJ Special Edition Victory Celebration
-The explosion from the destruction of Alderaan.
-The touch-ups to Obi-Wan and Vader lightsaber battle in ANH.
-Han’s “It’s alright, I can see a lot better.” line.
-The newer establishing shot of Obi-Wan’s hut.
-The cleaning up of the Battle of Hoth and the Snowspeeders.
-C-3PO’s line about the tractor beams.

So, like, the DVDs?

Well, I could just say “recomposited bluescreen shots” but I feel like that’s too easy. So if I had to stick to significant changes that actually change the movie and not just taking what was already there and making it look a bit cleaner…

I would say the 97 version of Jedi’s ending. Maybe it’s just because I grew up on the special editions, but I just think Victory Celebration is a much better piece of music to end it on. (Also if I were told to make one NEW change for whatever reason… I would re-redo the Anakin ghost to actually look like the Anakin we saw under the helmet. Like, seriously, why did the original have hair? Kid-me couldn’t even tell who it was supposed to be.)
Then if you wanted me to keep one per movie… for Empire I’d keep Ian McDiarmid. Sure, you could complain that the original Emperor in that scene looked more intimidating, or that 2005-Emperor still doesn’t look like 1983-Emperor, but I think I’d still like to keep the same actor who plays him in every other movie. Though I would very much like for the “Offspring of Anakin Skywalker”-line to be removed.
For ANH… Does the title “Episode IV: A New Hope” count? …Probably not. Well then the CGI spaceship shots then. I have no issue with those.
