Official Sluggo review:
I paid for my whole seat, but I only used the edge.
On my first viewing, I actually found the Jakku sequence to be too slow. Now that I’ve seen it a few times and am aware of where everything is going I quite enjoy it.
And I felt like we had very well developed characters, especially when you consider this is part one of a trilogy.
I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.
Got my Star Wars 7 DVD in the mail, looking forward to relaxing with the movie in the upcoming days and posting a revised review. Only saw it once in theaters.
Jar-Jar is the Emperor in the extra special edition of ROTJ (scenes 1, 3, and then 6 to the end).

He liked it. It had him on the edge of his seat.

Sluggo! Now there’s a name I’ve not heard in a long time. Welcome back!
Where were you in '77?
How did I not get that initially? Thanks lol

And while I wasn’t on the edge of my seat I can’t stop smiling while watching this film.

I realized I liked it when they killed of that major character and I thought “Yeah. That works” If a prequel quality film had tried it, I would have walked out.
The fact that we watched Han Solo die violently and so many of us still left the theater with big stupid grins on our faces kind of blew my mind when it occurred to me after I’d seen it a couple times.

Good dialogue and acting can make any idea that’s suspect in concept great when fully realized. Also Torn Apart is a fantastic bit of music that exacerbates the emotions conveyed in the scene.

Best review on the board. 😉
I’m wondering when the fan edits are going to come out that use the original opening crawl for SW (1977), Ep. 2 for ESB and 3 for ROTJ, and then retitle TFA as Ep. 4, thereby creating a 6 film saga with no prequels.
Jar-Jar is the Emperor in the extra special edition of ROTJ (scenes 1, 3, and then 6 to the end).
Hopefully soon so long as the rest of the ST has no connections to the PT. I would even want them to not reveal Supreme Leader Snoke to be Darth Plagueis just so the PT would be scrapped in these hypothetical fan edits .
I’d actually be down for an edit that does away with episode numbers altogether.

Very nice. Always loved that logo!

Ideally, there should just have been no episode number in the crawl. Star Wars logo, followed by TESB / ROTJ / TFA. I love those tall letters used to spell out the episode title.

^Agree.
Perhaps, but Lucas was emulating old movie serials, even though we had to wait a lot longer between chapters…

I am very glad that TFA uses real names. Po, Ray, and Fin sound exotic enough, but they aren’t weird. There are no characters in TFA named Oobly Gadoobley or anything ridiculous like we see in the EU.
The Person in Question
Yeah, no names like in the rough draft of The Star Wars. That script is weird as f**k.
^Not weird enough.

I think GL himself was bothered about this number thing: “Oh… I have 3 movies to make to complete this… what was I thinking ?”
I saw The Force Awakens tonight for a second time. The film was much better than I remembered it, but ultimately it was still my least favorite Star Wars movie thus far, except for perhaps The Phantom Menace.
In the end, I still believe that Han Solo returning to the smuggling business after the events of the Original Trilogy destroys his character arc. That is probably my primary concern with the film.
The movie was at least tolerable when I watched it with the assumptions that Rey was Luke’s daughter whom he had trained as a child and that Kylo Ren had wiped her memory and abandoned her on Jakku.
If Rey had suppressed memories of her training with Luke as a child, her ability to perform a Jedi mind trick on the stormtrooper and to wield a lightsaber in combat becomes more believable.
The only thing that would have destroyed Han’s character arc in the OT would be for him to become selfish again. Hell if anything he’s more selfless than ever in TFA. Him going back to the only thing he was good at makes sense due to his split with Leia
Glad you enjoyed it more this time around 😃
