Fair enough. If we were keeping most of the story the same where in the film would you believe to be the best time that Luke is found?

They could’ve kept it the way it is and gave Luke a few lines to make him answer about his exile and what’s his next move.
Alternatively, they could’ve had BB-8 already owning a complete map, so they can find him as soon as he gets to the Resistence’s base, so he can help with SKB. Of course, if you want to keep most of the plot the way it is, some scenes may need to be trimmed in order to fit in a 2 hours movie.

Which doesn’t happen in TFA, though, unlike in the above examples I quoted.

Doesn’t really need to. We already know it’s going to happen.

Maybe, but my point is that every movie should close its main plot. I think it could’ve been handled better, but I understand your opinion.
