I really need to listen to some of foreign dubs to see how Nute and the rest sound.
In the German dub, they have French accents.
In French, they sound a little bit russian (with “r” being rolled) [edit: Q2 fan edit has a french track, check it out if you want to hear the french dubbing]. “Droidekas” actually means something in french: “droïde de casse” = droïd that wreck things. Oh, wait… these coward political maneuvers who colonize black people to get trade treaties signed are supposed to be XIXth century french ? Hell, I’m being offended now !
And are german and irish people offended as well by General Hux (I mean, he’s a space nazi ginger) ? They should be I guess. Are gay people offended by C-3PO (he clearly sounds like my hairdresser) ? Or aren’t just american people getting offended more easily that europeans (swedish not included) ?
Fun fact about racism: in France we have a quite powerful far-right party called Front National (27% at the last election, we do not laugh that much about that but we try), commonly known as “FN”. That’s why french people get an extra joke when Poe names Finn… hum… wait… a kinda white dude giving a black man his name… oh… is this racist ?
