I have no idea what that was about, I find Frink unfunny and tend to gloss over his posts. The free speech was more in response to the idea that the forum will become more limited.

Did I bring up the first amendment at all? No. I stated that open and honest discussion is the best thing. The problem is all to often that rules of conduct become tools to pave the way to censorship of ideas: you start going far beyond common decency and the reasonable leaves the room. Just look at what happened to CBR. They changed the rules in such a draconian way that if you say something as mild as “Frank Miller sucks” they come down on you.

I hate to have that happen here.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

As someone who’s been here since 2005, there have always been crappy people. But the thing to remember is that this site has always persevered and the good people have stayed and the bad ones have left or been banned.

Back when I started, this site was mainly just a site for people to crap on George Lucas not releasing the original trilogy, signing a petition to try to convince him to do so and trading LD rips that only looked good on a small CRT.

While everyone and their Moth3r was trying to create the best capture of this once-awesome analogue medium, there was supposed to be one that ruled them all… and created quite a shitstorm in the process: the X0 project. This team had massive promise and a website and even merchandise! People (including me) gave donations and all of this hype led to the greatest fizzling out of all times. I, and many others, understood that sometimes these things happen, but there were plenty of furious members who demanded their money back.

Then there was the GOUT and the despair and pages and pages of bickering about “Cheap George”.

Then Harmy came along and his thread is filled with pages and pages of one-posters asking for invites to MySpleen.

Let’s also not forget about Team Negative One… Or the new forum software…

While Harmy and the new movies have created an upsurge in new members, having crappy personalities on this site is nothing new. They’ve all just been banned or have left. So, let’s be civil here guys. Getting furious about why Mon Mothma is at Yavin base, or having a hissy fit because people don’t appreciate “the finer qualities” of AOTC is just embarrassing.

Writes a post asking for more civility, starts yet another tired and boring argument about Frink (it was one paragraph out of a bunch, people!)

Speaking of Attack of the Clones, when I saw it in the theater I took a bathroom break during the picnic scene and had never watched the movie in its entirety after that. A week before TFA I had a prequel marathon with the guy who sat in line with me for hours to see Phantom Menace and realized that I had never actually seen all of AotC, so the first time I saw ALL of the movie was last December. What a horrible scene. What a horrible movie.

Somebody mentioned needing a certain illicit substance to get through it. Trust me…it does not help.

I find it funny people tell you to complain to Jay and you decline. I also think you don’t know what real bullying is like.

However you feel about Frink, what was being said about his personal loss crossed the effing line. It is unacceptable behavior and will not be tolerated.

As for AOTC, not enough Watto…

It’s time to settle things right, to have a agreement to unite everyone. So, whatever you think about AOTC as a whole, can we all agree this is the worst (or one of the very worst) scene (scenes) ever seen in a SW movie ?

I’ve been here since 2003. I was a mere 13 years old back then. The site’s purpose was to get the original, unaltered Star Wars trilogy properly released and preserved. That was the goal we rallied behind. We didn’t require an orthodoxy interrogation to join and participate. When people started doing edits or even preservation of prequel material, we didn’t tell them we thought their efforts were a waste of time.
Nowadays, there’s quite a bit of Dr. Evazan and Ponda Baba around here. Someone comes into our cantina and we feel the need to announce that we don’t like them. That is uncalled for most of the time. There have been trolls as there always have, but I don’t like the bum’s rush people seem to be getting lately.
And, Frink. I love ya, but you’re the most obvious offender of the above right now. The more you tighten your grip, the more young users will slip through your fingers [into the forum]. (Hmm… That metaphor didn’t work at all!) I like the humor Frink brings to the table, and even half of the smartassery. But we are painting ourselves as an unwelcoming place full of fundamentalists.

When someone comes here claiming that the PT is better than TFA, ROTJ, or any-god-you-choose-help-us ANH or ESB, when they insist the PT are good, well-made movies, when they willfully ignore the racist tinge of TPM, I’m going to mock it. When someone comes here and asks for an invite without any intention of sticking around or contributing in any way, I’m going to mock it. When someone has the opinion that Rey is a shitty character and (more importantly) if you think otherwise you are just thinking with your dick, I’m going to call it out as bullshit. When someone makes fun of Down syndrome AND accuses me of making up my FUCKING DEAD DAUGHTER, I’m going to call them an asshole and do my damned best to get them banned. When that person keeps coming back with new accounts, I’m gonna do my best to get him banned again and again. When someone calls Rey a loathsome mysogynist term like a “Mary Sue” I’m going to call them out for being mysogynist. I think the first half of the scene is ok, actually. It doesn’t entirely work, but it does help (slightly) to bridge the gigantic chasm that exists between Padme not being interested in Anakin at all and Padme suddenly being in love. There’s one quick glance Padme gives Anakin at the end of that part of the scene where you can see she’s starting to think more seriously about him, and it actually kind of works.

And then we get to the second half of the scene, and it’s utter garbage. Too bad.
