Star Wars Prequels 35mm 4K Filmized Editions by Emanswfan (a WIP) — Page 25

Extremely long time, no clip. Here’s Padme adressing the senate in upscaled form. This is pretty close to a final version, with a few more tweaks needed. Youtube of course killed the film grain out, but I did upload and render in 4K for purposes of a higher bitrate streaming. I most likely will try to widen the dynamic range of the scene in places more still, and smoothen out some of the tones.

Note: I’ve been making versions such as these that focus more on modern film and removing the dated early digital look. Separating the “old” color grade as a layer on top of the base “filmized” grade, seems to be the best way of managing the workflow. Here you see the base layer version. Also, I may further tweak the upscale to be sharper, but it can be hard to keep artifacts away.

Looks really good emanswfan! I’m constantly amazed what people can get out of these deleted scenes.

Looks great. I am glad to see the prequels get some quality treatment.

Do you think you can do this treatment to the other eye of each of the 3D versions if and when you can get your hands on them? (And yes, believe it or not, all three of the prequels have indeed been converted. No word on when, let alone if, we’ll get 3D versions for the original trilogy yet, though I hope the original versions are the ones that get converted.)

With a bit of editing and stuff like this, there is capacity for massive improvement and at least make them entertaining if not good.

Agree. Want to make edits of these so badly. Hope the project isn’t dead 😦

Your right about that on a script level.

But from looking at this image here, it’s hard to say that it isn’t capable of improvement.

Just a minor suggestion. For that scene, I’d recommemd enahncing the starfield.

What could be worse than a Death Star? A BIGGER Death Star!

I thought so too but at second glance it looks better corrected. No teal-ish tint. Personally, it looked much more OT to me…

I have it on good authority that the actual 35mm prints are up for sale here:

http://www.35mmforum.com/forums/topic/25197-for-sale-star-wars-trilogy-prequels/

But I could wait forever to get my account approved for that forum so I can’t check.
Will someone see this and pass it on to the right people? This seems like the right thread!
Apologies if they’re already sold- I can’t access the link 😦

The prints are “on hold” for someone at the moment.

Will the finished films possibly come with an isolated score audio option? I’ve loved those tracks in Harmy’s despecialized trilogy - but not sure how they were acquired/made/came into existence!?
Oh and also wondering if both the DVD and BLU-RAY commentary would be included?

I’m trying my best to get the project done pre-TFA, and if not by the theatrical release, at least by the DVD/Bluray release in time for marathon viewing with appropriate fan-edits.

I’d love an update, so hyped!

When you think on it only 4,5,6,1 and 7 have complete soundtracks. I think 2’s soundtrack only has the new tracks composed for the movie it’s short but a good half is from Phantom Menace. Williams was buried with a 3 other films in 2002. The only soundtrack to officially not have a full soundtrack official release is Revenge of The Sith. I known there is a bootleg of a full ROTS soundtrack. So if it were to have that isolated score option it would have to be through those means. A Isolated Score would be awesome. I wish a official full soundtrack of ROTS comes soon. If given the option it be cool to watch ROTS with just the music, being that it would have all of the music instaed of the roughly 60 to 70% we got on the official soundtrack. If there’s anything Star Wars fan appreciate of the Prequels is John Williams music.

All my life as I looked away to the future, to the horizon. Never in my mind did I know where I was, what I was doing.

Speaking of ‘bootlegged’ ROTS and AOTC soundtracks: (if these links are against forum rules I’ll remove them right away)

These are what I’ve been listening to for a while, they’re really good!
I don’t see it being insanely difficult to to sync these to the film? They’re quite comprehensive and contain very minimal, subduded and unobtrusive background noises…

Not that this matters, but…

That seller at 35mm Forum posted that hold status back in February 26th, over a month ago. No update was made since, so, yesterday, I contacted the seller to inquire about the status.

The prints have been sold. The seller just didn’t update his thread to indicate that, which he later did after my inquiry.

He was selling the prequel trilogy for $3000.

TFA’s soundtrack is not complete. AOTC’s soundtrack is missing more than just the bits from TPM. Speaking of, TPM would be the easiest film to do an isolated score for as the Ultimate Edition is the score exactly as presented in the film (but keep in mind that means heavily edited so we still don’t have a complete score for TPM).

This is all off topic though.

I don’t really care how long this project takes, these “restorations” will make a lot of fans and editors very happy. It will be worth the wait. The fact that anyone is even attempting this is incredible.
