Can I ask something? Why are a lot of people not liking the idea of Rey turning to the Dark Side? I think from the small glimpses of what we’ve seen of her angry and even considering her upbringing I think she has the prerequisites for a good Dark Sider.
On a smaller note why do a lot of people want Kylo Ren to be redeemed? I know Star Wars is supposedly about hope but it would be far more entertaining to see Kylo go further and further into darkness and madness. Also he get’s redeemed and lives it would be an overt rehash of Vader’s redemptive moment.
Well Rey going dark would also be a rehash of the Vader plot, except even worse it would be a rehash of the prequels. The whole “come to the Dark Side, we have cookies” thing has gotten stale. That’s why I think the reverse, Kylo being tempted by the light side, is one of the most refreshing things introduced in TFA. We also need our protagonist to remain the moral center. Be challenged, yes, and they don’t necessarily have to be goody two-shoes, but they shouldn’t go full blown evil. Rey should be like Luke in that regard.
As for Kylo being redeemed, I don’t really want to see that either. Like you said it would be a rehash of Vader. If they pulled it off very carefully that could actually be one parallel that works, in that it might tie everything together by making the theme of it never being too late for redemption the central theme of Star Wars. But surely there still could be a more interesting and unique direction to take his character. I’m just not sure what that would be.
