Hmm tough call. Some movies I like may have been viewed as bad when they were initially released but are nicely regarded now. I’m going back almost a century but one of my favorite horror films is Island of Lost Souls, the first film adaptation of the book Island of Doctor Moreau. When the movie came out, it was banned in a bunch of countries and the books author hated it. Now it’s actually regarded as a well made 1930s horror flick and by some the best film adaptation of that book.

But anyways I’m just gonna assume we mean films that are just poorly made but some may like it anyways. Well I may get some slack for this but I don’t hate Jaws The Revenge. I don’t love it either but I might go as far to say it’s a smidge better than Jaws 3. Jaws 3 feels like a Jaws ripoff film masquerading as a Jaws sequel. At least Revenge I watch and feel like it’s a Jaws film. Some of the original cast was brought back, not much, some key Jaws musical bits were brought back, and we briefly return to Amity Island. Of course there’s the flaws. Probably the worst looking shark of the series, the scenes in Amity are at Christmas time, Ellen having flashbacks of things she never witnessed, the awkward shark exploding ending in place of the original ending, and probably a whole list of other things. But it has moments I like. I like seeing Mike Brody supporting his family and bickering relationship he has with Jake, Michael Caine gives a good performance and plays a likable character. And as unrealistic the shark and the situation may be, my favorite scene is probably when the shark chases Mike through the sunken ship and Mike escapes by releasing the air from his air tank. I don’t know. Watching that as a kid just seemed cool. I think the problem with the film is it’s a potentially good film stuck within a poorly made film.
