Just go with the flow, guys, and leave the time code in if it can’t be adequately edited out. At least you’re not working with VHS-quality footage,

No more posting obvious camcorder shot off the screen videos.

Surely, we can all keep our pants on until the Blu Ray is released in a couple weeks?

From TheDigitalBits.com Review:

The set’s bonus experience also includes six short deleted scenes from the film (including Finn and the Villager – :31, Jakku Message – :47, X-Wings Prepare for Lightspeed – :22, Kylo Searches the Falcon – :50, Snow Speeder Chase – :48, and Finn Will Be Fine – :23). They’re in HD, but they all have a time code window in the upper left corner. A few are largely finished, while others are rough edits that have live action mixed with early previz. Really, these are just brief sequences, scene extensions, and trims. There’s nothing especially significant here, so if you were hoping for cut scenes of substance, you’re going to be disappointed. Unfortunately, there’s apparently one more deleted scene that’s only available by using the Digital Copy code that comes with the set. It’s called Tunnel Standoff, and it involves Maz, Chewie, Finn, and Han’s escape from the tunnels under Maz’s tavern. It’s likely the best of the lot, so the fact that the scene is not on the disc itself is a bit frustrating.

this indeed is frustrating, but from the sound of it, these “deleted scenes” aren’t really gonna add much to the movie. i think my first edit will just be a few trims here and there. just to remove some of the obvious “fanservice” and overly silly/meta jokes. these were my only real complaints. besides the opening music and the crawl. maybe one day we will get some real deleted scenes.

i may even try using the same technique that Ady did in ANH:R in the cantina scene where he made the alien’s faces move. i think if done right i can make Carrie Fisher’s face emote more. she looked like a puppet.

This is just a tease. Based on the “released” Deleted scenes, I’m willing to bet there will be a Director’s cut, or extended cut, released in the future.

Previously reported by Slashfilm.com, the first cut included an additional 20 minutes, and this was reported to be in the last month before wide release meaning they are finished:

JJ Abrams‘ first cut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens was almost two hours and forty minutes in length. Lets be clear, that’s his first cut of the movie, not the assembly edit. The film was chopped down to 2 hours and 16 minutes for the final theatrical release, with a reported 20 minutes of scenes getting axed in the last month of editing alone. A dozen full scenes were left on the cutting room floor, not to mention snippets of scenes, moments of dialogue… etc. A lot of these scenes had near-complete visual effects, and some of the characters and moments removed can be seen in some of the merchandise and books.

Unfortunately, patience isn’t a virture for most Star Wars fans, and I include myself in that category.

Didn’t JJ say there would be no extended cut?

He also said no more Trailers after the first one was released, and then we got the International Trailer. Besides, who would buy the first Bluray release if it was public knowledge that an extended cut was coming.

At the end of the day, no matter what JJ says, the Mouse is running the show.

He also estimated 15-20 minutes of deleted scenes for the BD. So, this is a crap release to make sure we re-buy later.

None of these will be the full scenes at those lengths, so the time code is of no actual concern.

If the doc is as good as it looks, I won’t consider it a crap release.

They took out some wrinkles, did a hair repair, changed the blood - added a good thirty or forty years to its life. The doc looks great.

Ahhhh. Took me a second and now I’m trying to explain to my family why I’m laughing. Haha.

What would be the best way to “cover it up” so to speak? Would something like adding some fog towards the top half of the picture be viable? How about a big lens flare, in JJ Abrams fashion? Most likely though the best bet will be to either leave it in or crop it. At the very least you can add a solid black box over it, so you don’t have to view the numbers changing.

On the bright side, that bar doesn’t matter for Frink’s edit. He could do something creative with them and it would only be a good thing…

So it looks like my presumption that the Star Trek Into Darkness fiasco will be repeated was correct?
Right now I don’t see any reason for buying the Blu-ray, I will probably wait for something like the Star Trek Compendium release.

The deleted scenes are out there… Timecode confirmed. Effects seem to be finished, but not always good.
The scenes are mostly useless, as predicted. Could be used mostly as filler to help with pacing, I guess …
All of it 4:16 including titles.

Kylo Searches the Falcon: First part: Snowtroopers and Kylo Ren inside. Kylo steps into cockpit: “Han Solo”.
Second part: Kylo Ren and the Snowtroopers are outside the Falcon, seeing the arrival of X-wings. I would only use the second in an edit…

Snow Speeder chase: Rey and Finn on a Snowspeeder chased by a Snowspeeded with Snowtroopers. They shoot at each other, Finn does not miss. The end.

Jakku message: The Resistance receives a message from Jakku about Poe and the village, no word of BB-8. “Never understimate a droid”. C-3PO stares into the camera for half a second …
Inserting it in the beginning would ruin Leia’s reveal later in the movie. Individual shots might be reused somewhere later though.

Finn and the Villager: Finn can’t shoot a woman with a small bundle (child?).

Finn will be fine: Camera circles a round Finn on the stretcher. Then “Your friend’s going to be just fine” - stiff delivery. That’s it.

X-wings Prepare for Lightspeed: “Black leader: The Falcon Has Landed”. “All fighters clear for takeoff”. Cut from X-wings lifting off from the base right into space. X-wing pilots in closeup. X-wings go to lightspeed.

This would have been nice to see as it pertains to why Finn defects from the First Order.

Have just seen the deleted scenes and overall, yes disappointing. I did however like the short sequence of the X-Wings lifting off and then heading into lightspeed. It gave us a moment to ID some of the individual pilots and also gave us a moment set in space - something which TFA is rather lacking in. I also like the scene of Kylo searching the Falcon and then seeing the X-Wings arrive, I think that sets up the climax well, and also the cinematography and musical score is lovely in this scene (sometimes that is all the justification a moment needs).

I’d like to see a version of TFA that reincorporates these two brief scenes, although with the time counter that may prove impossible, however the other deleted scenes I feel do belong on the cutting room floor.

Exactly how did you see the scenes? We are a couple of days off from the 1st.

EDIT:

Just saw the scenes leaked in their entirety on facebook. My bad.

Not a real issue, since the theatrical cut is too long. SW movies shouldn’t be more than 2h (without credits). The political exposition can easily be given in the opening crawl anyway (if such a scene has been shot, would be mandatory to putting it back). A more complete edition will deliver the other cut scenes, just wait a few months.

“Finn Will Be Fine” sounds like a Giacchino track 😄

Only the Kylo aboard the falcon scene has finished effects. All the others, including the snowspeeder chase have very rough effects, more like an animatic stage. It’s strange seeing the x-wings with red markings instead of the blue. And how the hell did they get aboard the Falcon when the whole one side of the ship outside is seen to be buried? We see Kylo coming up the ramp, but thats blocked

http://collider.com/star-wars-the-force-awakens-deleted-scenes-maz-snowspeeder-rathtar/

^This Link gives information about more dogfighting around Star killer base that was cut and more to the Rathtar Sequence (not sure if I spelled it right) There is obviously more to Phasma being put in the trash compactor and Star Killer actually firing on the Planets some sort of scene missing there.

I have not yet seen the ones released but, sounds like the x-wing’s going to light speed is the best offering seen so far.

I reckon the Maz scene will be good.

My bet is they are holding off for an extended cut.

But also obviously the whole knights of Ren sequence is being held off until episode 8 and the conversation between Rey and Luke is all shot for episode 8 by JJ already. They just decided to hold that for later in episode 8. So that accounts for the other 20 minutes. Cut on Purpose.

20 minutes cut speed up the film. So your looking at about a 10 - 15 minutes extended cut. of which you have seen around 5 minutes which will not be in the extended cut or atleast targeted to be cut.
