Read something about the SSE being ever so slightly out of focus?

The main issue is the light leak that occurred during the scan. It caused bright light in the frame to streak across darker areas. I can’t wait to see what the new scan looks like.

Light leak and scan quality. Maybe focus isn’t perfect either.

I hope Harmy gets poita scans for the SW LPP and hopefully even ESB. Might help him match the BD quality. Certainly seemed helpful for Jedi

Harmy, are they still going to be 720p releases? Or will you go to 1080p now? The extra resolution of the SSE and the grindhouse releases was much appreciated on the big TV. That was my only nitpick with the Despecialized releases, low resolution.

720 is not 1080. You can tell because the numbers are different. 😉

I think he means that the amount of detail lost at 720p is relatively negligible due to the poor quality of the 2004 masters. I believe Harmy has demonstrated this to some degree with 1080p/720p comparison renders.

The 1.0 and 2.x series are 720. Version 3 will be 1080p since it will not rely on SD elements.

Yep.
The numbers don’t mean a thing if the master being used can’t be brought up past 720. It’s amazing how horrible the official blurays are, ain’t it?!

Yeah, I can understand when having to deal with upscaled standard-definition sources, but that shouldn’t be an issue any longer. As for whether or not 720p is enough to not lose any detail over 1080p, I don’t agree. I’ve got a decent-sized TV set up at the threshold distance for the average eye, and it is child’s play to differentiate between 1080p and 720p sources. It does make a difference.

I see what you’re saying. It’s more about the current official transfer’s quality.

I don’t think it’s quite the case to say that the BD is upscaled 720p. Just that the lack of detail makes for diminishing returns in using the full 1080p vs a 720p downscale, which would not be the case for a film master of higher quality.

I’m glad you’re here to tell us these things, Professor; Frink is assigned to take you in the back and plug things into you.

Hey everyone,

Just to confirm: I can download the AVCHD Files, burn them onto blank SD DVDs, and play them back at full HD Quality on my AVCHD-Compatible Blu-ray player, correct?

However, will the AVCHD Files actually fit onto SD DVDs? What should the capacity of the blank DVDs be in order to fit the files on them? Do I HAVE to buy blank Blu-ray disks? Is there no other way I can fit the 8 GB (or more) files onto DVDs, or is there some specific brand/model of blank DVD that I can buy?

I’d really appreciate the help.

Usually people will apologize for that amount of spamming… Anyway, the AVCHD is sized specifically to fit on a dual layer DVD (BTW, DVDs are only “SD” if you put SD content on them… they hold whatever data you can fit on them). So NO you don’t have to buy a Blu-ray burner or Blu-ray burnable media, but you’ll need a DVDR DL disc (~8GB), not a normal single layer DVDR (~4GB).

Thanks so much!

Yeah, sorry I didn’t realize I had spammed until just now. I’m new here; wasn’t quite sure it had sent. Anyway, thanks!

Here’s my two cents, I’m willing to bet most people (>75%) sit too far away from their display medium to even discern the difference between 720p and 1080p.

Hello all!

I have a few questions about older versions and plans for future versions of the the Despecialized trilogy as a whole.

Would this be a good thread to use, or is there another place better suited to that more generalized topic than the Star Wars thread?

The NJVC Custom Bluray Set of Harmy’s Despecialized Editions is available on Mega.

Reading the previous pages should give all the info you need. I’m not sure how far back you’ll need to go, but it should be no more than the last 15-20 pages.

EDIT: Oops, I posted before finishing 😄. You should ask in the project thread if the question pertains to the project.
