Something I’m not seeing any Prequel fanedit talk about are the designs of the PT ships compared to what you see in the OT.

I think the reason the PT ships look so much different is because the Republic was in it’s prime, everything was squeaky-clean like Star Trek

The heart of what made the OT what it is were Ralph McQuarrie’s industrial designs.

Not sure if this was brought up before, but what if Palpatine wasn’t working the Feds and Separatists? Instead of fabricating a crisis to gain power, the invasion is “real” and he sees it as a chance to rise. Surely there are ways to go around this, and it would solve the entire galaxy looking like idiots for not finding out he was behind it all.

A bolder move even, would be to have Palpatine begin his reign with good intentions, becoming progressively more decadent until he has formed the Empire. It would have to be done in a way that realistically leads to him gleefully torturing people with lightning decades later.

All you would have to do in order to accomplish this is remove Darth Sidious’ scenes

It would fit with a Dooku-Jedi edit (as the sidious link would have to be removed)

Speaking of removing characters completely, I was thinking of an Anakinless (and possibly Tatooine-less) Episode I. In my ideal PT, the Prophecy would be entirely absent; and the focus wouldn’t be Anakin’s downfall, rather Palpatine’s rise. As such, it’s not really necessary to have Anakin at all in Episode I.

In a heavily re-worked Episode II, the introductory scene could be the speeder chase. The sequence could be turned into one unrelated to the main plot ala Indy’s intros, that would instead serve to establish Anakin and Obi-Wan as friends, and to start the movie with a bang.

Another possible intro for the character would be his frolicking with Padme in Naboo (minus the turd monsters), so their romance is already underway when the movie begins. I’m pretty sure most of their scenes together can be edited into an idyllic sequence, ideally they’re not in hiding. Padme would not be targeted, and Anakin would be on shore leave; before being called into action by the Council, which would not forbid love.

This is probably well beyond the scope of any re-edit, but it bothers me that the main thing the Jedi have against the Emperor is that he’s a Sith lord.

General Greivous dies, then the Jedi go full battle ready to arrest the man. Is being a Sith lord technicaly illegal? They have no proof or evidence that he’s done anything wrong. The man doesn’t even have a single session of the Senate to renounce his emergency powers. It just seemed really rushed.

Honestly, I don’t mind TPM, although about 60% less Jar Jar would be nice.

AOTC is just unpleasent to watch. I hate Anakin the entire time, and they never actually solve the mystery Obi-Wan is investigating.

I still empathize with Anakin more than probably any other character in the Star Wars saga, but I am the exception to the rule.

They solve the mystery: Count Dooku hired Jango Fett to assassinate Senator Amidala in order to get Nute Gunray to sign a treaty pledging the Trade Federation’s droid army to the separatist movement.

So what if TPM was edited so that the probes that Maul sends are not “probes” but drones that then attack during the podrace. The race is going and then the drones show up and start blasting podracers and spectators. Anakin is able to avoid them with his piloting skills and then this creates a frensy which leads into anakin, qui gon, and the rest of them running back to the ship, leading into the short encounter between qui-gon and maul and them flying away.

It would have to be done in such a way where they already got the ship part, and so the race is purely to win anakin’s freedom.

But I think with some editing and some (pretty extensive) effects work, it could be done.

^That reminds me of the deleted scene where Qui-gon slices the probe apart. It could fire on them first, so that Qui-gon isn’t seen as a cold-blooded droid murderer 😉 In all seriousness, your idea would make the podrace both more and less interesting from a plot standpoint. It seems silly to have the crew hang around just to free a slave while there’s an invasion in progress. On the other hand, making the podrace the epicenter of a Sith attack does make it more interesting.

I had an idea yesterday which would also need some effects work, about the giant reactor room in which the Jedi fight, which was originally supposed to be the planetary shield. It occurs to me that the room feels like the Death Star, with beams in it that look like a massive version of the Gungan shields, so what if Palpatine had stolen the shield tech from the Gungans and developed an enormously powerful ion cannon in secret?

There are several problems with the movie which could be fixed with this single idea. Why do the Nemoidians want to invade Naboo? Sidious gives them info about this ion cannon, which aside from being hugely valuable from a R&D standpoint is also what will protect them on Naboo from any external threat. When Sidious sends Maul to Naboo, it is to use the ion cannon to take out the Nemoidians after he has no need of the invasion. He is, after all, the Senator from Naboo.

That is why Maul is hanging out near the generator room at the time. During the lightsaber fight, he mentally flips a switch on the control panel beside him, and a closeup shows the ion cannon targeting the droid control ship. The Jedi don’t notice this of course. As they fight towards the bottomless shaft, the shield grid closes as a precaution as the ion beam fires out of the bottomless pit and strikes near the Control ship. Anakin is knocked off course and spins toward the landing bay, which is momentarily unshielded as the ion beam wreaks havoc with the battle. Then Anakin nukes the landing bay, it begins to blow up, and as the shield grid closes for a second time the second ion beam lances out and takes out the control ship’s power again, allowing Anakin to escape.

The glowing ball at the end of the film signifies the return of this technology to the Gungans, healing their feud. Of course, Palpatine continues scheming of even more powerful superweapons…

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Yeah, arresting a person because of his religious beliefs screams authoritarianism to me. Also, he’s never refered to as a Sith lord in the OT, so it would make sense to get rid of that title in the prequels.

He is referred to that in the novelizations, though.

This isn’t really radical, but I was curious what people would think about not having Anakin kill the Sandpeople in Episode 2 (or if there’s an edit where he doesn’t).

You can even leave in the Anakin/Padme talk later, heavily condensed (here’s a brief mockup):

Even better if you could get the line “Sometimes there’s things no one can fix” in there. Changes the whole scene to a serious, emotional interaction. Especially without the ‘he just killed people and now he’s telling her’ vibe of the original, or even the ‘he just killed people and now he’s hiding it from her’ vibe of most fanedits.

AotC really had a missed opportunity in that rather than build Anakin up to have a huge fall in Ep 3, they chose to say “oops, his backpack split open and he lost most of his supplies”. Pretty much guaranteeing that even if he reached the top, he’d never survive. Yes, we knew the ending. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have walked away from Ep 2 loving Anakin as a character. (Sadly, the metaphorical backpack only had a small split in it and we had to watch his supplies slip through 1 by 1 the whole damn film)

Preferred Saga:
1/2: Hal9000
3: L8wrtr
4/5: Adywan
6-9: Hal9000

Well, I think thats a fine idea. Anakin was portrayed to be a whiny, shallow and stupid kid and that didn’t change into the adulthood, he sounds like a brat even as an adult (except the anime series, there she somewhat acts and sounds adult like). From the very first movie, he always seemed like he is waiting just a tiny push to go to the dark side, like he was searching a little excuse or something. So, defying the Jedi code and murdering all those Sand people along with women and children was the first straw, but it was far from the first sign of how little he tried to be a proper Jedi. I mean, he didn’t even try to stick with the Jedi way, like ever.

So, if I would have to suggest something, it would be this, mostly remove him from the first movie.

Movie starts with Tattoine, the engine of their spaceship is damaged, so the Jedi lands on Tattoine, where they buy a new engine and meet the young Anakin. No pod racing, no miracle child bullshit. He is just a regular brat who is extremely strong with the force and Qui-Gon just feels it. No blood tests. Their engine is replaced with some regular credits (no “we don’t accept republic credits here” bullshit) and the go of to the Jedi temple, where they leave the young Anakin until the next movie. They don’t sense anything dark about him, they are cautious but they take him in, he is just a child after all. (Also, it would be easier to replace young Anakin if he appears in less scenes. I would replace him with a teenager about same age as Padme, so it is not creepy anymore)

The second movie should be where Anakin truely shows that he is a proper Jedi and deeply connected to both the force and the Jedi code. He doesn’t slaughter Sand people and whine a lot. He is sad and angry about what happened to his mother, but doesn’t seek revenge. This should be the first of the several events that pushes him to dark side, but he should resist like a proper Jedi.

The third movie should be about his transformation, he tries to fight the dark side, but since the republic is already corrupted and some Jedi are simply dicks (like Windu, who was close to turning to the dark side himself) along with manipulation of the Emperor. (there should be several reasons why he turned to the dark side and it shouldn’t be as simple as “oh noes, I saw a dream and I am afraid of losing my girlfriend and this shady dude offered me immortality”, it should be more like, he was trying to uphold justice and just pushed to the other side, he lost faith in the Jedi ways) Also, he doesn’t kill children (storm troopers might have killed those kids though, also Anakin might have killed some senate members, but thats about it) That way it is more believable when Padme says there is still good in him.

What do you guys think?

Cool ideas. It’s interesting to start TPM on Tatooine. Hopefully there’d be a way to compensate for runtime. And there might be some existing edits to your preferred concept for ROTS!

Sorry for changing topics, but I was curious if this idea had been suggested before.

I’ve been trying to think of ways to repair plot inconsistencies between the trilogies, and one of the major ones that seems overlooked in my opinion is the whole relationship between Anakin and Owen/Beru. They seem close in the OT but they barely could even be considered acquaintances in the PT.

So would it be possible to turn Kitster’s character into a young Owen? It could help them seem more like old friends rather than strangers. 3PO could call him “Mastern Owen” in TPM and both Anakin and Qui-Gon say the word “win” a few times in the movies if I recall correctly, so you might be able to make that work. You could even make one of the girl kids into Beru if that could even be possible. Then when Anakin comes back to find his mom in AOTC, he find’s out she married Owen’s dad. You may need to redub Owen in AOTC though to make it more like a reunion rather than an introduction.

I think one big issue though is that Kitster seems to be a POC while Owen is white. So it might throw people off unless they can overlook it.

I don’t think that would work because I think Owen supposed to be a little older than Anakin.
