The Warriors (1979) 1080p HD Theatrical Cut (Released)

Is anyone interested in making a custom DVD or BluRay of the The Warriors (1979)Theatrical Cut in HD? The original DVD is OOP replaced by the horrid Directors Cut which ruined the pacing, altered the dialog and ruined the Soundtrack. The official BluRay is has only the DC.

Itunes has the 1080p HD Theatrical Cut and it is up at the human organ site. This is something I would like to do , but I have no experience in creating BluRay or Hybrid Bluray discs. I am willing to attempt it, anyone willing to help or collaborate?

I just usually mux the file using TSremux into a BD ready format and use nero express to burn it to BD

simple movie only disc but gets the job done

I did attempt a custom job with scored menu with The Abyss (a BD using the new HD master of the theatrical cut, the Fullscreen (open matte) Special Edition and the VHS dealer preview that was uploaded to the spleen but i noticed that the framerate was slightly off

Such a project has been underway at the fanedit.org forum. There are shots thought untouched that actually have been zoomed in and reframed in the DE that need to be fixed, in addition to removing the comic book transitions.

A couple open matte 16mm prints have popped up on Ebay before, but there wasn't much response around here.

I think it's up on Netflix now. Last time it was on, it was the theatrical cut. And it's in HD, so I reckon that's the best source.

as I was trying to say with out coming right out ,it is on the spleen, 1080p Theatrical Cut.

Wouldn't the Netflix version have a much higher bitrate, though?

It might but the problem with capping from Netflix is the bitrate is adaptive. The quality of the picture can suddenly degrade if you have any net congestion or isp issues.

I wish someone would create a theatrical cut using this file and the Director's Cut BD, I HATE the Director's Cut! Make it go away! haha

I think the worst thing changed was the ending at the beach... cutting off that loooooonnnnngggg walk while the end credits rolled? NOOOOOOO!!!!! That was one of the most memorable things in the film. This is one of my all time favorite films, I refuse to watch the newer cut anymore. I had to buy the OOP DVD years ago for a big price for a new copy. Been watching that for years now.

PS: I could provide the original theatrical audio in ac3 from my DVD if anyone needs it for this project.

I'd say that losing the slow reveal of the Baseball Furies was a much bigger sin. The original version of the scene builds those guys up to be scary as hell and makes the Warriors look like they SHOULD run, while the DC version just uses the lame comic book transition to drop you in the action too fast, ruining the tension that was present before.

Yeah, that was terrible too! Maybe that was worse. Both are quite bad though.

I got it used (like new) off of Amazon last year for less than $6 shipped.

I thought the picture quality was great. Haven't seen the DC, do not wish to.

Agreed, the picture quality is surprisingly good for such an old DVD release. Believe me, never watch the DC. Nobody seems to like it much, if any... The sad fact is that the DC actually removes more than it adds! WTF? Last time I checked a DC was supposed to add more than what was originally there, most of the time anyway. If I was Walter Hill, I'd be ashamed and try to erase the DC from existence, it's really an embarrassment.

Did anyone have synced LD PCM for a lot more of pleasure in watching this cult film? 😄

Yeah, would be great if someone could capture the LD PCM to sync - wasn’t there a project to do this at one point?

There is no Laserdisc version with PCM. The only LD release has a master that dates back the days of Discovision and no CX noise reduction. Based on my experience with various LD releases of Grease, I don’t think it would sound so hot.

I’ve offered to capture from a factory sealed VHS Hi Fi tape in the past, but had no takers.

I made the Theatrical edit using the current BD and the 1080p iTunes copy (which is a small file size, around 4.5 GB, but for now good enough quality to replace the comic book transitions). Turned out rather well.

Bates, is it already available?

Have you also replaced the numerous zoomed in shots?.

I know this thread started back in 2015, but I would LOVE to find an HD version of the theatrical cut. I used to have a spleen acct although too many years have passed since I used it. If there is an HD version of the theatrical cut anywhere, I would absolutely love to see it.

I know for sure that the Netflix version is the Theatrical Cut and is in HD! But I cannot record it since it is available in the Great Britain Netflix library only and I’m from another country.

Is there anyone here who lives in UK and has a Netflix account? I would pay for someone to record it from Netflix with a decent frame rate/bit rate!!

Also, according to this guy:

http://www.destroythebrain.com/geek-out/under-the-knife/can-watch-theatrical-cut-warriors-hd-now

it seems that the Amazon US streaming movie rental service still has the Theatrical Cut as well in HD, where you can watch it online or download it to a device (in a lower quality I suppose).

I really hope that someone grabs the TC from one of these sources before it’s too late!

The VHS cut had a different piece of music but due to rights issues a song had to be changed also so the VHS is the original theatrical edit of the sound mix not the DVD or Netflix version for that matter.

Weird though I picked the Pal DVD up in a charity shop today. Not the ultimate version the old dvd.

The original song was “Nowhere to run” changed to “I am a warrior”. That might also affect the end credits?

Edit my bad kt hs only UK VHS that got changed sorry for that.
