Help: looking for... Where to find Star Wars SE 1997 Trilogy preservations...?

Hello members !

for years now, I’m looking for a digital version of SE 1997. I prefer to watch the original trilogy, but SE will remains the first SW version I ever seen (at 6, with my father in 1997…). I understood that the myspleen site could have what I am looking for… but it is closed and for a reason I don’t understand, people there seems to be jalous about their version of star wars and not happy to share it…

Is there any way to get a SE release, and what it with my boy like I did with my father before ?

Thank you very much !

Thank for not even being polite. That’s exactly what I has talking about.

I guess that all people here love SW, and so, why not even give a hand to those who are not very good about web search or encoding system…? Like most of you, I’m embarassed to watch over and over my VHS release, and wander if some one could help.

Thanks again.

Well I think you started off on the wrong foot, making accusations while asking for a favor. But I assume English is not your first language.

Not to mention making a thread just to ask for links is a big turnoff. I wander where people got that idea.

I was going to suggest you could find it in a trash heap but for some reason people here seem to like it.

I apologize. You’re right, English is not my first langage so maybe I appeared rude, and I’m sorry. I was just saying that I do not understand some discussions I readed on myscreen forum, where people who are just looking for the Star Wars version they like were send away…

Concerning the last comment, I know the SE is not the better version. I think we all agree to prefer the original. But it the first I have seen and for me, it will continued to be the Star Wars of my childhood. I actually have the digitalised laser disc version of the trilogy, which is fine but I would like the see again the 1997’s with a proper image, and stop damaging my vhs…

Few months ago, althor preserved 1997 LaserDisc set, scaled to 720p with cinema DTS audio.
They are still available from usenet group alt.binaries.starwars

Go to your favorite usenet search engine
(www.binsearch.info, www.nzbking.com, nzbindex.nl, &tc.)
and search for US97SE

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Thanks !

I also find a version called EWFSC, that appears to be "a single layer DVD rip of the 1997 Special Edition version of “The Empire Strikes Back” (and the two others). It’s from the “Enhanced Widescreen Five Star Collection”.

Is anyone have a clue about this edition and his quality ? Anyway it appears that there is no seeders…

Just a question… why isn’t there any “one files” version of the 97 movies ? Like an mkv, avi or a simple file…?

Five years ago, I remember having a divX version of ROTJ in English, and it was the SE. The quality wasn’t great but still better than VHS. So at a point, a simple file has to exist, at least for ROTJ, and was lost …?

If your talking about pieces inside an iso, you can get a file out of them fairly simply if you mount it with virtualclone drive then “rip” it by title.

Alternatively, dragging the VIDEO_TS folder into VLC or MPC will play the disc.

thanks to Snoopac, I’m gonna get a 97se-dts-V4 version but we are not quite sure if there is video in there or just audio files… Does someone could tell me more…?

That one is really just uploaded for the audio file. There is a video, but it’s a low quality one so that people can use it to synchronize the audio to other sources.

There’s a version called “The TB release SE” that is probably what you want.

Thanks and… damn !

Do you know if there is a way to get this TB Release SE ?

myspleen. Maybe usenet.

Oh, I think there is also a new laserdisc rip on usenet from a few months ago.

Thanks. The problem is I can’t use myspleen… no account.

Is there a way someone could give me the torrent trackers we found on myspleen ? (or maybe it doesn’t work like that… I kinda sucks when it comes to internet function…)

I was able to get the ROTJ SE 97 with the Usenet with a free trial, but man getting the torrents would be so much easier.

Agree… I don’t understand why there is no SE on the “casual” net. I mean, there was VHS and laserdisc version of 1997’s Star wars, so it must exist some copies. Or 99% of people are just interested on the DVD (or worse blueray) version ?

I got the laserdisc version of original movies by the way, if someone is interested, but there are not clean… (that’s allright to me, I actually think Star wars is better with a non perfect image. It’s like the dark vador helmet being not symmetrical, or some cheap effect I love.)

I think you’ve summed it up well. The public is extremely bad at keeping things seeded, as there is no incentive on public trackers. On top of that, the 97SE is a niche preference compared to the Blu-ray or Despecialized. On top of that, the 97SE is not available in HD, or even an official DVD.

I’m guessing that you DON’T have the LD player…
If you could get an Image off those Discs then you have something.
I have done encodes from LDs before and they came out quite nice (or better than VHS!) LOL.

I thought I recognized your foul stench when I entered this forum!

The spelling “Dark Vador” suggests a native language of French (where he was, indeed, called that).

Ha, yes indeed, I’m done. That’s the kind of thing we are stuck with… Dark Vador for Darth Vader, C3PO for Z6PO, Millenium Condor for Millenium Falcon… and the best : Chictabal for Chewbacca… The first french translation of ANH made a lot of dammage…

For the LD, I got a numerised version too. It’s certainly better than VHS, but it remains blurred…

Well, Harmy did do the '97 Special Edition version of the original Star Wars, which you can be able to find on tehparadox. I wonder when he’ll do the Respecialized Editions of Empire and Jedi. 😕
