I recently picked up Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust! I was so happy to find that one! I also picked up Led Zeppelin’s Coda. I am really hoping to find Velvet Underground & Nico soon, but I may just pick up a reissue of that one.
Of all the led zeppelins you picked that one? Lol. I mean it’s zeppelin so Obviously it has it’s moments and “we’re gonna groove” will always be special to me as one of the first songs I learned on guitar (btw did you know that the drums bass and vocals are taken from a live performance with the guitars overdubbed and “I can’t quit you baby” is an actual live performance that they somehow got rid of the crowd noise on? The original mixes of both are on the “How the west was won” DVD) it’s vastly superior to any other led zep record.
My plan is to get all of the Led Zeppelin albums on vinyl, and Coda was the only one at the store, not to mention it was extremely cheap and the vinyl itself was in pretty beautiful shape. Now I just need to find Led Zeppelin I & III, and Houses of the Holy. I may get the reissues of those though since their Atlantic records tend to cost almost as much used. That way I can get the lovely, pristine sounding 180g vinyl, which is worth the extra cost, especially for those albums.
I used to have very negative feelings towards Coda, and after first listening to it I never bothered to pick it up again until years later. I enjoy it for what it is and appreciate it a lot more now (Bonzo’s Montreux rocks!) than I did in years past. I still, in a way, view it as much more of a curiosity than as an actual album; that is a fitting perspective though since it is a collection of outtakes and oddly edited live recordings.
By the way, what is your opinion of In Through the Out Door and Presence?
