Or make a movie about a cannibal psychiatrist, and a maniac who’s stitching up a skin suit from his victims. Just don’t let anyone say it’s a horror film. 😉

It’s a little more than that. Even though I nitpick small things that the movie get’s wrong due to my knowledge in the real life counterparts the film is still a masterpiece in every sense. Saw it again like 3 months ago and it still holds up.

Well it got 3 Nominations but was pipped by Mad Max Fury Road and Ex Machina in the categories it could have won in or was considered for as being strong points.

Tough competition… To be honest both Mad Max and Ex Machina are very good films alongside The Revenant.

But like you say there is a clique and some winners already seem to be dubbed a full gone conclusion before they are even announced.

I think the category it was probably closest to winning for was visual effects for the animatronics but Ex Machina was pretty amazing how they did the robot stuff… It’s a tough call I do have more of a soft spot for Ex Machina though I have to admit.

I am actually a bit surprised TFA never got nominated for production design along with Crimson Peak

I felt TFA wouldn’t win any oscar. Mind you, even though I said I dislike it as a Star Wars film, I think it’s a fine movie, but it’s not objectively a masterpiece: it did everything right, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it, but it wasn’t able to raise the bar in any of the categories or of doing something completely original.

Oscars are nice, but nearly a billion bucks and a reinvigorated franchise is even better.

My first “nitpick” during opening night was that the Star Wars theme sounded different. Of course, this is due to another orchestra taking over for the LSO.

I had no idea they re-recorded that for every score. Makes sense, I guess, so the tone of the orchestra is consistent for the entire score.

I cried (mainly during the opening crawl – how embarrassing!

Me too—I actually also cried when I saw the trailer on the big screen before Spectre. No shame.

Sucks to be a UK fan right now. Official release dates have been announced.

For the US market:- Digital version on April 1st with Blu-Ray on April 5th
For the UK market:- Digital version on April 11th with Blu-Ray on April 18th

Why a two week wait? Not happy right now.

And for the editors hoping to use the Deleted Scenes in their fan edits, if they are presenting these scenes on the disk the way they show it in their commercial, then you’re sh*t out of luck.

2 weeks is ridiculous. I mean the film premiered in Australia 2 days before and the UK got it 1 day before we did in the US and the notion that a privileged few was going to see the film before I did was almost too much to bare. Let alone two weeks.

Here’s the packaging:

Standard Blu-Ray and DVD -

Target exclusive cover -

Wal-Mart exclusive cover -

Best Buy exclusive steelbook -

When the Wal-Mart packaging leaked a week or so ago I worried a little that maybe I should have waited to see what all the alternate covers looked like before I preordered my Blu-Ray on Amazon, but luckily I find the standard version the most attractive.

The DVD cover is the only one I really like.

I thought for sure there would be some gimmicky store exclusive case shaped like BB-8, the Falcon, or the Starkiller.

My thoughts on the packaging:

Standard Blu-Ray/DVD covers: great.
Walmart: obviously for kids (not a knock, just not what I will buy).
Target: Really awful, far too busy.
Best Buy: Also bad, and I don’t understand the appeal of steelbooks. It seems like they only exist to keep people buying things from Best Buy instead of Amazon.

Also, I wonder–will the differences be the actual case art, or just the slipcovers. It would be neat if the standard Blur Ray had the theatrical poster underneath the slipcover. They go well together.

Deleted scenes and bonus content only come with the Target one? Good thing I pre ordered it from them since I had a gift card.

No, just a couple exclusive interviews etc. Most of the features are on all of them.

Sooooo “etc.” means non pertinent stuff or?

Ok well screw the Target version. I just wish the standard Blu-Ray version wasn’t so eh…the standard DVD cover is perfect though.

It’s also worth noting that the blu-ray is almost $10 cheaper on Amazon. I’m willing to bet whatever extras the Target version has end up on YouTube sooner or later anyway.

Just out of curiosity (I would never buy this in a million years…), is there going to be a 3D BD release? If this movie doesn’t get one, I can’t imagine what would anymore. It’s really amazing what a dud the 3D-push was.

Haven’t heard anything at all about one. I know exactly one person with a 3D TV, so it’s not surprising.

Disney has been pretty awful about releasing 3D Blu Rays in the states the past few years. (Marvel has bucked that trend so far.) Region free 3D versions from overseas aren’t that hard to buy online though.

The 3D version is out later this year according to the official star wars announcement.

I know loads of people with a 3DTV over here in the UK. In fact what’s stopping a lot of people i know from getting a 4K Tv is that the cheaper ones don’t have 3D capabilities.

Gah, with a few reservations I liked the movie overall, but there are a few tweaks I’d like to make for my own version eventually. However, I knew that fully ‘colour-corrected’, 5.1 sound, finished deleted scenes were a big ask to expect. I’d especially hoped that the ‘Snow Speeder Chase’ action scene could be used seeing as it’s being included…but if ALL the deleted scenes end up ‘time-stamped’, then that’s that!
