Or they had interesting new ideas but ditched some of them for brand recognition reasons.

None of the concept art proves the plot would have been vastly different if these ideas were
implemented into the film.

The presentation of plot points in some cases were visually less similar to the OT in general and ANH specifically. In other cases it’s the other way around. The Jedi Killer concepts are pointedly more Vader like than Rylo Ken for one example.
The plot beats would still be very similar to ANH but making them look different would mask the similarity. Clearly a choice was made to make the similarity more obvious for branding purposes.
I personally think this was an error that an ambitious editor might be able to have some fun and success with.

If anyone wanted some tips on making the Kylo Ren is Han and Leia’s son reveal happen later in the film here you go. I think the interaction with Snoke and Kylo doesn’t necessarily work all that well but I will be editing the Lars San Tekka death scene in this manner for my personal fanedit.

To people who have seen STAR WARS once sure but to people who know the film like we do will see through it.

The entire film was designed to cater to both new/casual and life long fans. It was definitely a higher up who wanted this to happen; I doubt JJ and Kasdan initially wrote the script with paying homage in mind.

Well. That all sounds thoroughly useless for the kinds of things people want to accomplish. The snowspeeder chase might be a fun addition, but nothing storyline related it seems.

As many suspected, they’re probably going to dish these out slowly over various box sets and crap in the years to come.

Jakku Message might be when Poe calls the Resistance base to let them know he has the artifact from Lor San Tekka and then radios them back its not going well or possibly the additional Kor Sella content

Dammit, I want that scene with Leia on Hosnia or whatever it’s called.

If what towne32 says is true about them releasing certain deleted scenes over the course of years we won’t get a “perfect” fanedit for quite some time. But at least we can do the bare necessities in terms of editing to improve the film.

With a few reservations, I liked the movie overall…but would like to tweak certain moments here and there eventually. I’ve just seen the home release trailer today which shows a ‘time-stamped’ deleted scene. I was hoping that the ‘Snow Speeder Chase’ scene was fully completed in 5.1 sound and potentially usuable, but if they ALL end up ‘time-stamped’ then that’s a real pity. I’ll still be tweaking the actual movie for myself, regardless.

I’m still anticipating a theatrical re-issue between Rogue One and Episode 8 with a few scenes popped in an attempt to push TFA over the Avatar mark.

A Special Edition? God, I hope not.

Well maybe this way they can touch up the CGI on Supreme Leader Snoke and the Rathtars…

Saw the film earlier this week and Snoke’s CGI was pretty good but he was obviously CGI in that uncanny valley sort of way.

The Rathrars on the other hand seemed totally fake. I have come to enjoy the sequence as a whole though.

I’m sure someone like Ady could do a half way decent job at it.

In general just making them look grittier would be the answer but I don’t know how someone could do that.

But we might care about Hosnia.

I think telling the audience the state of the Galaxy (i.e. the treaty and why The Resistance is kind of separate from The Empire) is more important in my opinion.

I think + my opinion = redundant.

It’s not my fault, I was programmed this way.

I’m surprised so many people want the Leia political stuff. I didn’t think they’d put it on the blu-ray and honestly I’d be kind of surprised if they even filmed it. Itd’d kill the structure and pacing if it was included.
