Get it while it’s hot! I will only leave it up for a day or two.
Where were you in '77?

I never made covers. Seen some cool-looking ones, though.

First of all, thank you, Puggo. Second, is there any way to clean up the mono track to HD quality? I want to see Star Wars in widescreen with the real soundtrack. Please comme with some tips. Thanks.
Your puggo grande sounds like a great way to relive the nostalgia of Star Wars with film grain, audio pops and all. Do you know where I can find this? Fanedit.info and constant web search for possible torrents or direct Downloads have failed.

Thanks Boba! Any chance you could reupload your ESB cover?

Thanks wookiee. I just came back when I realised I’d lost all my copies of Puggo’s work from a major HD malfunction. 😦

Yikes! That seems to be happening to one too many people around here.
And you spelled Wookiee correctly! Yay!

Puggo I’m sure you’ve already been asked this, but did you do color corrections to the Puggo Strikes Back or is this pretty much true to the print? Trying to figure out if all that blue hue in the wampa cave was added in or if it was really like that on the film.

Yeah it’s a bit of a bugger actually, basically I lost all my favourite Puggo’s stuff: The Super8’s, Puggo Grande & Puggo Strikes Back. Hopefully these should be easy enough to replace. As for that other stuff…

Did you read his signature? He doesn’t want annoying questions.
If he had a cover, it would have been in the release. There is no cover for the release.

Color correction was done by Adywan.
With regards your question - “is this pretty much true to the print?”, it is important to understand the issues involved in capturing film. The film image is captured by a digital camera, for which a decision has to be made with respect to white-balance (among others). It’s not just a matter of grabbing what is there verbatim - the media are entirely different. Digital capture involves lighting, and ultimately a color model, and there are always decisions made at every step, and adjustments. It’s the same with printing a film, and projecting it. We will never know the exact, correct color, because there is always variation. I tried to capture it as close as I could based on my own eyes, and then had Ady correct it because I liked his color choices in earlier projects.
As for the Wampa scene - to my eyes it looked that blue on the film. Surprised me too.
(note this discussion really belongs in the PSB thread)

Just re-watched this for my Trilogy watchthrough…but on the xbr960 upscaled to 1080i…
Holy crap! You all know my complete adoration for the PG, but for the first time I felt like I was actually running the print itself! The PS3 upscaler is pretty good paired with the 960’s 1080i res, and here the PG just shined. Yes, even better than when I projected it. (Used a midmodel Epson IIRC) The colors and densities come across far better due to this magical tube, and even the set’s big issue with phosphor lag wasn’t an issue. And the sound has far more detail to it than I realized…or it may be the fact that I have old Klipsch bookshelfs which can accentuate the highs at times.
Has anything ever come up about actually doing an HD or higher quality file version for PG and PSB without the DVD5 formatting? IIRC Harmy suggested this when going over some untouched PSB shots. And since there were some correction done to PSB…perhaps a Super Puggo Wars might be in order… 😉
Puggo, would you be open to releasing these original scans upressed in an mkv format with better compression ala the H.264 codec for better grain retention?
If so I would love to help with encoding and distribution and maybe new covers and whatnot…

With respect to higher-quality releases of the 16mm films, my plans are to first finish with ROTP (it’s almost done - really!). Then, I will probably make an announcement that will be of some interest.

That’s excellent news indeed for my favourite SW preservation!
You need a cover for ROTP?

Hey Boba! Nice seeing you again.
Of course… your covers are always topnotch. This third volume has taken a long time for me to finish.
