Just curious if the person that synced the 5.1 audio track for 35mm Star Wars can work their magic and make one for ESB Grindhouse as well. Any plans for that?

I’m in the same boat. Did anyone ever do a 5.1 sync for Empire Grindhouse? I know there was a DVD version floating around that was GOUT sync’d, but wasn’t the video on that release changed to match the audio? I’m looking for audio that can sync up with the video portion.

Thanks!

I don’t remember anyone ever GOUT syncing the ESB Grindhouse.

Does anyone know if this ever made it to tehparadox or any other place where it’s obtainable through jdownloader? I’ve never been able to track it down. I’m far too computer illiterate to try Usenet, and I’m not able to seed torrents so I’ve never bothered to try the spleen because I’d be one of those “grab and go” guys everyone dislikes so much.

It was on The Pirate Bay when I got it. Also if you have MySpleen it’s free leech right now so it doesn’t matter so much if you can’t seed.

EDIT: Got it.

It’s awesome. It’s raw. I love it.

If I had an invite I’d give you one, because you are actually a part of this community.

Just watched this again for the second time, and… it’s very rough, especially compared to SW and probably ROTJ which will be next in line. I mean, there are error solely made in “post production”, there are light lines on the top and bottom for one reel, one reel is squished… I hope the sanitized version comes soon. 😃

Ehhhh, now that TN1 has disbanded I wouldn’t get your hopes up.

Why? They’re still working on these, no matter what the name of the group is.

I’m really speechless watching this. It’s incredible. This is how I want to watch The Empire Strikes Back from now on. THANK YOU

I’ll just wait patiently for it to hit paradox. I don’t trust torrent sites due to past experiences and I’ve never had a problem from using paradox. I don’t want to pressure no one to give me a invite to spleen either. It’s the only one I’m missing as well. I’m sure someone will eventually load it there. Only a matter a time.

Does anyone know what the original MKV file size is for this? the copy I have is 23,358,979KB which is apparently too big to burn to a BD-R (according to my new blu-ray shaped coaster…). Should I look for another copy, or should I go visit the technical forums for instructions on remuxing (?) it to a slightly smaller ISO file before burning to a disc? My end goal is to have a standard single layer bluray to pop into my player.

A BD version was released. It had the extra benefit of fixing a visual glitch at the end of the film (but I’m sure you of all people would’ve spotted that 😛 ).

  1. Demux the audio stream from the MKV (use MKVcleaver).

  2. Compress the audio using FFMPEG or the software of your choice to AC3 or AAC or your choice of format. Here’s the command-line:

    ffmpeg -i 02-ESB_Grindhouse_1080p_BD25_Track01.wav -b:a 640k -vn 02-ESB_Grindhouse_1080p_BD25_Track01.ac3

  3. Mux using MKVtoolnix gui, and remember to uncheck the PCM track.

Thanks for the help, gentlemen. That muxing stuff is way beyond me, I’m totally new to it all but I’ll keep at it. In the meantime, is the BD formatted file on the spleen? A couple of people were kind enough to send me invites so maybe I’ll go check that out. Not sure what I’ll do with the raw mkv if I find the BD file, but it’s nice to have options.

The mkv had the glitch at the last scene, already mentioned; it also had 4:2:2 color space.
Some media players might not like it. On the other hand, it might be preferred
if somebody wanted to use some of that source footage in his own project.

A long time ago, some NiceGuy posted that first mkv on usenet.
AFAIK the fixed BD never made it there. Perhaps I’ll post it, in the next day or three…
What better way to hasten Sanitized release
than spending time & energy posting the soon-to-be-superseded one? 😃

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Actually, the MKV doesn’t just have glitching in the last scene. I watched it again, and the glitching continues into the end credits.

You can do it directly with ffmpeg without demuxing if you want:

ffmpeg -i 02-ESB_Grindhouse_1080p_BD25.mkv -c:v copy -c:a ac3 -b:a 640k -map 0 02-ESB_Grindhouse_1080p_BD25_ac3.mkv

In fact that’s probably what I should have posted the first time. That’s easy, you can do that.

In all honesty, I have no idea what that even is that you posted. But it’s ok, I’m getting the BD compatible version (with the corrected errors, whatever they were) as we speak. And I’ve got the mkv to play around with too, so best of both worlds. Not sure I’ll keep the mkv forever since it’s apparently got technical glitches and my archaic computer can’t even play it (probably due to the color space issue mentioned above). But part of me also wants to hoard every version of all of these releases, just in case…

So is ESB Sanitized still being worked on?

Sorry slightly off topic, but I was not sure who to ask but I thought you might know the answer.

Was this trailer (1982 Re-release trailer) ever available in 35mm but in the aspect of 2:35:1?? .

http://thestarwarstrilogy.com/starwars/post/2014/02/10/Empire-Strikes-Back-35mm-1982-Re-release-Trailer-in-1080p

The reason I ask is because there are a couple of unique shots that can only be found in this trailer and nowhere else. But it is very badly cropped in the aspect ratio the trailer is in. I am just wondering if this trailer is available in the same or similar aspect ratio as the film.

Thanks

And keep up the great work!

I’ve synced my German DeEd audio track to the TESB Grindhouse, so whoever wants it, feel free to PM me.
